Brother Sponsorship

Hi All,

I understand that this topic might have been discussed multiple times in this forum but I was not able to find the exact thing I am looking for.

I have two questions :

1. My brother has been staying and working in Canada for around 2 years (with excellent salary) now and have got the Canadian PR. I am from India and working in an IT company for around 4 years now.
I want to move and work in Canada. Can my brother sponsor me for a Canadian PR so that I can move to Canada even though I don't have a job offer from Canada as of now. I am 32 years old.

2. If my brother does not have the option to sponsor me, can i apply for a Canadian PR myself. What are the eligibility criteria and how long will it take from starting till the time I get a PR so that I can apply for jobs in Canada ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Siblings can only be sponsored if they meet the criteria as stated on the CIC website:

Basically your brother can sponsor you only if he doesn't have any spouse, kids or other family in Canada, and your parents are both deceased.

If you need to immigrate on your own, then you should review all the available programs and see if you qualify for any: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/eligibility.asp

My brother is married but I am not. I guess I might have to apply by myself.
If I apply, what is the maximum time it would take to get a PR. Can my PR application be expedited if I give reference of my brother since he already is holding a PR card.

Yes - you will have to apply on your own. Your brother cannot sponsor you.

The maximum time it may take for your application to be processed is a few years.

No - your application will not be expedited because of your brother.
