British visitor to Canada question

Hi there,

I'm a British Citizen (26, M) who is thinking about taking a two week vacation to Canada this summer/autumn. A few years ago I was denied a US Student visa however, and was wondering what I should prepare for to ensure that it's not a huge issue. The whole story is I worked in the USA for 6 months after graduating university and met lots of wonderful people. The following year I applied to study in the States and expected the interview to be very similar to my working holiday visa - but it was a lot more in-depth and I did not have the required documents to prove I intended to return to the United Kingdom etc. So in short it was refused and I promptly forgot about the whole thing.

Now that I'm planning to take a vacation outside the European Union I've realised that this is something that could be an issue and would like to take whatever measures I can to ensure I can take my fortnight's break. My first question would be is this something the border official is going to take massive issue with? If so, what sort of things can I show him/her to let them know I will be returning to the UK after my holiday? I still live with my parents for convenience/money saving but I have a healthy bank balance. I could provide a letter from my employer saying when they expect me to return plus my plane tickets/hotel bookings as well.

What would you suggest for me to travel worry-free? Or would it be better just taking another vacation to Europe? Thanks!

You shouldn't have any problems.

Just make sure you have a return ticket and can prove you have the funds to pay for your visit to Canada.

All you really need to show that you will return is -

Return flight tickets
Proof of funds
Hotel reservation
Letter from employer

Those are the major things, and even then they may not ask you for all of it. Make sure you have printed copies of everything with you.

I've just came back from a holiday in Canada (British citizen as well) I had an incident last time and I was stopped and queried about it to which I assumed the worst, but it went well since I had the above documents. If it does become an issue that they may think you will overstay or attempt to go into America from Canada, they may issues you with a certificate that states that you ONLY have the two weeks in Canada, and have to leave on the date you tell them.
