Hi all,

I am currently serving as a sergeant in the British Royal Marines. After years of talk and decision making we have decided that now is time to hopefully immigrate to Canada. We are looking to start the process of getting our PR Visa, and possibly looking at moving to British Columbia or Ontario. I specialise in communications and have Diplomas in management and my wife is a registered Dental Nurse and Practice Manager. We are also moving with our two year old daughter Alice.

Any advice on great places to live and work, areas with low crime and decent schools etc would be highly appreciated. Also any advice on the use of an attorney, real estate agent and any career/job/head hunting agencies.

I thank you very much in advance fore your time and effort.

Chris, Katie and Alice.

Hi Chris,

I was browsing the Canada Visa site, came across your post & thought maybe I could be of some help. I'm a real estate agent in Toronto ON and would be glad to help you navigate the many great areas to live, work & raise a family in Toronto and it's surrounding areas & suburbs! I also have an extensive list of attorneys that could be useful to you during your move. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have (no matter how small). Below are a couple of job websites that may be helpful.

Hello there.

You need to first get very familiar with the immigration system and different ways to get your PR. I'm assuming you're going with the skilled workers program since you stated your occupation as well as your wife's. Get all of the paperwork together...check CIC website for info on all docs needed and how to put it all together, etc... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp

This process takes quite a while so I'd recommend you focus on that first step and no worry about looking for school districts, house, etc... you'll have plenty of time down the road for that. When it comes to using a consultant, most of the people on this forum will recommend you do this on your own as there's plenty guidance on CIC website and on this forum. Most of the time, consultants charge exhorbitant amounts and are not necessarly familiar with everything that needs to be done (their parralegal will do most of the research and work, which you can do yourself as well). Buckle up for the ride...this process is mainly a waiting game after you've submit paperwork! Good luck!
