Londonlady just apply outland, it is much faster. You can apply outland even if you are living in Canada at the time, something a lot of people don't know, it really is up to you.

In terms of Inland, if you do decide to apply Inland, you can still leave and enter Canada while your application is being processed. Lots of Americans do this, (they don't need a visit visa to enter Canada) and since you are from the UK, and no visit visa is needed I don't think you'd have a problem getting back in. The problem is for people who need a visit visa to enter Canada, they can often be refused a visit visa so it is risky for them to leave, for Americans/Brits/Aussies it's not really a big deal getting into Canada.

Yes technically if you have applied Inland, and you leave and aren't allowed back, you'd have to start all over, but the odds of that are not likely.

Don't give the immigration officer more information than they ask, always say you are here for a short visit (ie 2 weeks or so), sight seeing etc..and you can say you are staying with distant cousins and such, also always show a return ticket (you can always cancel this ticket with most airlines within a certain time frame and get a full refund) Further you can easily extend your visit visa status beyond 6 months, did that with my wife, just filed an application online, no problems.

Good luck.
