I am a british citizen & want to immigrate to canada, but it seems like the process is so tough. I dont know where to start.

My grandad was a canadian citizen & I have his certificate to prove this but I have been told because he was not born in canada this cannot help me. Is this true?

Secondly I work for a British Police Force in North West England, I am classed as police staff & not an officer. I want to immigrate to canada and work for the police force over there, however in order to do you need to have canadian citizenship or permanent residency I have neither. Is there any way around this?

I have also looked into qualifying as a skilled worker. My employment for the past 10years have been in customer service, the hotel industry, Prison officer/warden & is now in the police working in operations. I have been told to look into wether I qualify as a skilled worker for management but on the list it displays as "financial management". I know nothing about financial management, I definately know about insurance management & customer services, as well as sales. I was never a manager in my customer service job but I guess I could have been I just never persued it because it was my job that financed me through university. However i worked in a department named the "claims management team".

I have also looked into a family member who lives in toronto sponsering me but i have been advised that it is only immediate family that can sponser you. My cousin lives in toronto and is willing to sponser me is this possible. I also have uncles and auntys & my grandmothers sisters & brothers who are also there.

I have a degree & I have alot of experience are there any agencies that can help me find a Job?

I also have the opportunity to apply for a working visa holiday in december but am I able to apply for job in the police as police staff?

I really want to move and need help or I need someone to show me the way. The canadian embassy is not that helpful here they dont even have a telephone number to call through.

thanx very much

Hi Zebrabjs,
I am a British citizen myself eventhough I was born and brought up in Denmark. I use CampbellCohen as my immigration agents and suggest you contact them in order to find out how they may help you.

What counts is your actual experience (skilled worker program) and NOT what you COULD have become. For me it sounds as if you only have had a customer service / telemarketing experience? Could you tell me what degree you hold?

I don't think you can work as a cop without becoming a citizen or atleast a permanent resident. Also I do believe that you will have to take courses in order to work as a cop in Canada. Its a different country with different laws.

As far as I know only immediate family can sponsor you. A holiday working visa does NOT allow you to work as a cop there either. Any job which comes under the Canadian "authority" is a "no go" on a visa holiday scheme.

Hi

Thanx for replying ur the only one who has.

I hold a Police Criminal Investigation Degree. I dont think that is going to help. Do you know of any jobs a british citizen like me could apply for & actually have a chance of getting in Canada?

Im really struggling on how I can get over there, it feels like all im hearing is knock backs. How did you get over there?

Hello,
How long did it take you to get the Police Investigation Degree? Is it a diploma from the Police Academy or a degree from an Institution?

Try to search for police officer under the Skilled Worker Programme. If its there, you may be eligible.

I have applied as a skilled Worker. I am not there yet. (though I have been visiting Toronto every year for the past 7 years or so)

If you have a BA I think you may have a strong case. Why don't you use CampbellCohen? I use them as my reps.

I am going to Canada via Quebec. Lets see what happens.

Hi I am a british citizen and too worked for Police Force, but this category isn't needed in Canada, so I have applied through NOC as a Manager in Healthcare which I done for 5 years from 2004. I have sent my application beginning of June and hope to hear something by next month. Have a look through the NOC even though you may not have been in a job with the recorded title, but read through the job descriptions as you may see that you do some or all of the listed tasks. :)

You should check out the Skilled Worker section of the forum.

There are two useful links on top - the second thread is a FAQ and the first is a thread about the new process for Federal Skilled Worker that is effective June 26, 2010.

Good luck!
