Hi folks,
I landed in Toronto on May 31st 2019 and had the Goods to follow form filled up upon my landing. Now I intend to get those things from the US somewhere in September 2019. Am I allowed to get those in a rented vehicle (like from Enterprise)?

Also, I have my own car in the US which I intend to bring in (export-import) on a separate trip in October 2019. Is it mandatory to get all of the stuff (my goods plus my car) in one single trip or can I make multiple trips for it?
Thanks!

I only know the answer for 1 question that you have... yes you can get your stuff in multiple trips. I have done so.

I am planning to get my import my car from US to canada and they are some things you need to do before you getting to the border
1) you need to get a letter from your car manufacturer that you do not have any pending recalls
2) you need to make some adjustments to your vehicle such as the following

  • Recall clearance letter
  • The vehicle must bear a manufacturer's valid U.S. Statement of Compliance (SOC) label at the time of import/inspection.
  • Valid alpha-numeric 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Metric speedometer
  • Odometer labels
  • Daytime running lights
  • Child restraint tether anchorage hardware kit
  • Child restraint tether anchorage point locations (see Transport Canada’s List of Vehicles Admissible from the United States)
  • French supplementary restraint system label for airbags that require periodic maintenance
  • Air bag equipped vehicles are required to have functioning air bags at the time of inspection.
  • If the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle is less than 10,000 lbs., and the manufacture date is after September 1, 2007, it must be equipped with an electronic immobilizer system that meets Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 114.

So Yes to both as in:
1. I need to get everything here in one go? AND
2. I can use a rented vehicle to get it?

1. No, see the link I pasted. You can bring stuff in either in one go (as long as it is on your approved and stamped GTF list)
2. Yes, rental is fine as long as the rental company are OK about it

Thanks, I am aware of the procedure since one of my friend just drove from the US to Canada on a Canadian PR. All I am trying to understand is that can you get all of your stuff in multiple trips from the US or does everything have to be brought in one single trip.

you can do multiple trips on your vehicle( one which you own). Also since you mentioned that you are aware of the process, did you make any changes to the odometer. I have a manual odometer which shows both km and miles. will this be a problem? any idea?

Thanks

Awesome got it. That is what I wanted to hear:
  • You can import the goods into Canada in a single subsequent shipment or in multiple subsequent shipments spread out over time.

No that shouldn't be a problem. I have the same thing (primary digital in mph and secondary analog in kmph). My friend who moved had the same thing and all they care is for the kmph odometer to be present.

Thanks for the info. I read it somewhere that you can drive with US license plate and US insurance for about 60 days without getting a Canadian license. Is that true?
