I have been sponsored for a job in Vancouver, currently living in Washington state. My prospective employer has paid an immigration consultant to help get me on board faster. The consultant plans to meet with me in Vancouver, then take me to the border and get a temporary work visa next Wednesday. He believes he can get me over via NAFTA (engineer) so no LMIA will be required. He said the intended work permit lasts for 3 years.

If this all works out and I get the work permit, am I able to bring my stuff duty free (over land border) the same way a new Permanent Resident can bring their stuff over? I asked the consultant, and he thought I could, but he said the customs side of things isn't his specialty.

Thanks for your help.

The customs is not specified for visitors/workers etc. The can read the regulations online.
What kind of stuff are you thinking about? I had not problems bringing my stuff (whatever could fit in suitcases + small electronics ) from the Usa.
Also you can bring money up to $10 000 Canadian duty free.

I'd be bring my normal belongings, like clothes, kitchen stuff, and bathroom things. Maybe a chair as well. The biggest ticket items are my car and my computer.
