29-05-2015 at Fort Erie/ Peace Bridge. PR card received on 27-08-2015.
1) Currently in Canada on LMO based work permit that expires in Jan 2016.
2) I will be laid off in Feb 2015 due to no work in the Company.
3) PR application is in progress. Credit card charged today. Confident about receiving positive eligibility decision in the next 45 days.

Am I eligible for a bridging work permit? Any advice will be appreciated.

Although you are not eligible for a BOWP you can send an explanation letter along with your application outlining your situation and maybe a considerate VO would approve your BOWP.

Best of luck with your application.

My case is similar, I did my EE application and met CEC, but no ITA yet, my working visa expires at the end of march 2015, can I apply for a OWP?
Thanks

@tomsniper - the eligibility criteria for BOWP is that your work permit is due to expire soon (i forgot exact time but its quite short) and i guess you are eligible.

However, in case of standard CEC, BOWP eligibility either comes when you have received AOR - first stage approval OR in close cases, when you are sure to have CIC generated your AOR by the time work permit application is evaluated.

EE is a new process - so no one knows for sure. But if i were in your shoes, i would absolutely apply for BOWP.

In my opinion, if you have a good tentative score for EE eligibility, a visa officer should review that and approve BOWP.

BUT BUT - By march, you would at least have 3 draws of EE done. Why don't you have every thing ready and apply for BOWP once you do receive an ITA at least

Come on the VO is going to follow the rules. No AOR, or work permit is valid for more than 4 months, s/he is not going to issue a BOWP. Writing a nice letter is not going to change the decision.

I wasn't sure that with the EE process in place, the dependency on AOR is the same (or even if AOR will be the issued the way it used to be earlier). AOR used to take a couple months with whole CEC taking close to a year. I don't know how that changes with promise of six months. Merely this assumption, otherwise, yes strictly speaking by existing rules PMM is absolutely correct.

Update: This guy's work permit is expiring in Mar 2015 - so less than 4 months. At least he is okay with remaining duration as opposed to OP of the thread

I understand that the work permit has to expire within 4 months.

However, in my case, I am about to be laid off, AOR expected in 30 to 45 days and someone else is willing to offer me a job if I have my own work permit.

Wouldn't it be reasonable for the officer to give me BOWP as otherwise I will have to leave everything and come back again jobless once PR is approved?

It maybe reasonable, but the officer is obliged to follow the Act and Regulations. Remember what the first word in TWP is, TEMPORARY.

Thanks for you kindly aswers guys. And sorry for distracting the attention of Michael87's post.

I am confused but your info is being very useful.

I will send out my application anyway after the first draw. One cuestion. here with me is my wife (open working permit) and 4 kids 3 o them with student permit, and the little one with visitor visa. Do I need to apply for them too?
Or can I do it for my self first ?

@tomsniper,

if their permits are expiring too, obviously you have to worry about renewals for those as well.

And you can apply for all of these together to fulfill the requirement of at least having applied for extension of stay before expiry of earlier one.

However, approval of their permits depends upon approval of yours basically. So if VO is not satisfied with your case, they would be refused as well.

That is the problem, I have to spend something around 700 dollars, an could be denied.
Thanks for you inputs.

@michael87
From my view, you have good chances to get a WP, but I think you need an employment offer. What is you NOC?
