Bridging Visa

Dear all,

I have handed in my CEC application inland (2 weeks ago) and I have now less then 4 months left on my young professional visa. I have looked into the bridging visa just to be on the safe side but I have a question with that.

a) If I apply for it now and will receive it by mid March it will be valid for 12 months, correct?

b) If my pr application gets rejected after they issued the bridging visa, will they also revoke the bridging visa? Or could I just re apply for pr while on the bridging visa? This seems to be too easy I guess.

Thanks everyone!!

Regardless of when it is issued, if issued, it will be for 1 year.

If your PR application is rejected as incomplete, your BOWP application will not be eligible.

If your PR application is accepted as complete and put into processing, then the BOWP application will be processed. Once issued, it is valid for one year. If your PR application is later refused, you can continue working until the BOWP expires. And yes, you can re-submit under Express Entry, and if needed, apply for a new BOWP.

Thanks a lot! I received the aor right after I submitted my pr application. Can I use that to apply for the bridging visa?

Does anyone know how long the bridging work permit usually takes?

I applied for PR and bridging work permit mid Jan, just wondering if I'm likely to have either by the end of March?

Also my work seems to think I can keep working as long as I have proof my application is submitted? Not sure this is right.

If your bowp is approved then your pr gets approved too...bowp gets approved once your eligibility is passed. I had never seen anyone whose bowp is approved and pr was rejected.

You can continue working under "implied status" until you receive a response to your BOWP application. However, if you leave Canada, you will lose your implied status. So the only real issue is if you have any international travel planned before you receive a decision on your BOWP application.

Thanks for the help.

I actually received an email yesterday saying an additional $100.00 for open work permit is required within a week. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how / where to pay it. It seems I just need to upload the receipt of payment to my application from what I can tell (don't know why it didn't say this when I did the application)

Has anyone paid this before and know how to pay it?

Instructions address the Open Work Permit Holder Fee ($100).

  • pay the work permit processing fee and the Open Work Permit Holder fee.
You are fortunate they are giving you an opportunity to pay it, in the past they simply just rejected applications that were incomplete.

You can pay the fee online; I am not sure if you can add it to your existing application or if you have to upload the receipt via the webform (most likely the latter).

When you say you can pay the fee online, do you know where online? According to the letter I just add the payment receipt to my application by the end of the week but it has no details on where I pay the money and there doesn't seem to be anywhere in my CIC account to pay it either unfortunately.

Hi @jes_ON, finally we got our ITA today. I have a few question on the bridging program:
Background: My SP and family visa (dependent thru my visa) will expire Jun 2018.
1. With my husband’s ITA - he can apply for Bridging soon as we receive the AOR right?
2. Are we included on the bridging program? My study is almost done (Priv Sch) not eligible for PGWP.
3. I have 11 yo son too attending in Grade 6 now and his visa will expire too. I dont know which visa should we apply for him to continue studying.
4. Should I re-enrol myself with other program to buy time or I can apply for OWP from my husband’s bridging (even if I’m under SP).

Thanks in advance!

Based on my personal experience and on the timeline of other peoples here on the forum, BOWP processing takes about 2 months.

Ah - sort of. Only the principal applicant is eligible for a BOWP. However, you would be eligible for a spouse open work permit based on his BOWP. If he applied under the CEC program, there are no additional conditions he must meet, you would be eligible for the SOWP. You can submit your application at the same time he submits his BOWP application (or you can wait, you have until June).

3. I have 11 yo son too attending in Grade 6 now and his visa will expire too. I dont know which visa should we apply for him to continue studying.
Don't know. If your husband applies online for the BOWP, the questionnaire will tell him what he needs, I think.
