Previously had a 3 year pgwp which expired Oct 2012.

HI,
I am filling IMMI5710 form and validated it, it says validated and prints the bar code.

When i save it for uplaoding, validation window shows NO, but there are bar code page available.

Is this normal. Kindly let me know.

Regards,
M

Samleb, yes. I have one more year. Should become pr soon tho.

guelphmm - you should fill out the not applicable parts of the form as not applicable or unkown and try again. Took me a while to get it working.

What is confusing me is how could you apply for a BOWP in Jan 2013 when your PGWP expired in Oct 2012? Can you please clarify.

That is actually interesting. Maybe case officers have some authority to be flexible with dates or that detail might have been missed. Good ending either way.

GHBoy, can you please confirm...I think it will be a very good info to a lot of people on this forum.

Just got back home so I can now type out a thorough reply.

My PGWP expired on 20 October 2012.
I had already applied for a temporary visitor permit on 18 October 2012 to maintain my status in Canada while my CEC was being processed. (best strategy before BOWP program came into effect).
I discovered BOWP program had commenced since December 15 2012 and I filed my online application for a BOWP on January 3 2013.
I received my visitor permit January 15 2013.

My timeline suggests is that I was on Implied Status[/b] from October 21 2012 until January 15 2013.
It appears no restoration of status is needed for BOWP applications filed while you are on Implied Status.

I have no idea what would have happened to my case if I had not been on implied status to maintain my valid status in Canada.
I am also really happy I chose to stay in Canada after my PGWP expired - CEC waiting time is highly unpredictable!

With this WP I can finally go on vacation - 8) :P ;D

It really surprises me that you were able to apply for a BOWP while you were not having a valid WP and it has been approved indeed..this is very very surprising because it defies the main rule laid out by CIC :o

Makes me wonder whether 4month rule is just a measure in the initial rollout so they don't drown in applications. It probably would be lifted later on. I mean 4 months itself is pretty arbitrary and if people are getting work permits on the assumption that they will soon be permanent residents, then why not just give visitors work permits based on the same assumption.

We need more people responding to this post as there seems to be lot of confusion on the rules for BOWP now based on how a BOWP has been issued to one of our friends GHBoy.

Guys,

GHboy just got lucky..we should not be expecting everytime it will happen. most of the officer will by rule ...few may taken exceptional decision ..which definitely can not be challenged....

Anyways congrats GHboy and we all are happy for you.

No surprise by this decision!
In fact I think this inconsistent decisions are part of the way CIC handle a lot of cases. VO make decisions base in their own opinions and not the very same rules that they are suppose to apply. I personally called a least 6 times to CIC and I spoke with Call Center Agents who assure me every time that unless the WP was valid and going to expire within 4 four months. One will not be eligible for the new BOWP.
by reading the post in this forum the way many VO respond to applications an such inconsistent way that one only option is hope to get our application review by VO who just got a nice sip of coffee with a good Chocolate donuts bite and then he/she will be in good mood to make a positive decision.... :o

Guys,

I'm in a 'similar' situation as that of GHboy's. But it gets complicated only because I applied for study permit, instead of Temp. Resident visa.

My WP expired on 25 Nov 2012. Before its expiry, i applied for study permit and it was issued on 24 Dec 2012 valid up to March 2014.

Prior to that, I received AOR for my CEC application by 16 Oct.

I checked with CIC call center regarding BOWP but they declined purely citing that my WP expiry date. Now, thanks to GHboy, I'm thinking of applying for BOWP.

If they refuse (highly likely), is it possible they might cancel my study permit as well...or any impact on my CEC application?

In the the application 5710 - which option should i choose -

Restoration of TR status as a worker?

Cuz i'm just applying for bridging WP - dont have an employer yet, neither going back to previous one. At the same time, i'm not sure about choosing Restoration option - as i still have a valid status - though as a student. Or is it something not to be worried about as I'll indicate later that i am applying for Bridging Open Work Permit.

Grateful if you have any suggestions.

Cheers
