Bridge Extension

I am a student here in Vancouver BC and doing my internship that is integral part of my degree. My internship ends on Jan 31, 2014 and the same day my study, internship and off- campus work permit expires.

I had applied for bridge extension assuming that I'll get 90 days to apply for my post graduation work permit. But when I got my permit it says valid till March 31, 2013 that means 59 days only and it also says in force from Dec 22, 2013. As already mentioned, my first permit expires on Jan 31, 2014.

59 days might be enough for me to apply for PGWP, but thinking is this something I should be concerned about as to why I have been given lesser time. My friend applied with me and got full 90 days.

I am thinking can there be an error from the CIC officer in this regard? If I call CIC, will I be able to get any information regarding this? Would calling them have any negative impact?

Please help me out in this regards.

Thank you.

thanks Harry, but I spent like $275 on the extension, $125 for study permit and $150 for the work permit. If they'll ask me to apply again, i'll have to pay again. I think I'll be fine with the 2 months extension. I'll get my degree completion letter from my univ in 15 days and will still have 1 and a 1/2 month to apply for PGWP before my extension expires.

Any other suggestions by senior members?

Hi,

buddy, if you have your university course remaining, your university has to issue you a letter stating the length of the course remaining, but as I had my course completed, I just had to prepare a letter stating that I need a little time to get my final transcript and degree and upload it with the other documents.

When you go to CIC website on the "extend your study permit link, answer the initial questions they ask, they themselves give you the option "Bridge extension". The form that you'll have to fill is IMM5709 and attach other required documents with it.

Remember, they'll ask you to upload the letter of acceptance from the university, so if you have completed your course and just wanting sometime to collect your final credentials, just upload the letter you write requesting for the extension there, no need for the letter from the university then, in-fact your university wont issue you a letter in-case your studies have been completed.

Hi
Thank you for replying. Actually my course is going to end by May 2014. My student permit and visa also is going to expire on 30 May 2014. Can you please tell me what should I include in this letter.

your course and permits expire at the same time, so you don't need to apply now. Bridge extension applications take 10 working days to be processed, so even if u apply in the start of may, you'll be all fine.

just write that as my course finishes on this date and same day my permits expire, so I need time (1st June to 31st Aug) to collect my final transcript and degree and then can be able to apply for postgraduate work permit.

So if you want ur work permit extended also, the same form will have an option where u can select work permit extension also. For work permit, you'll need Eligibility verification number which you need to put in that form also.
