Breaks in 1 year continuous work experience

For IRCC purposes, 1 full-time week is 30 hours/week. So, 1 part-time week with 20 hours/week = 2/3 of a full-time week.
Therefore, if you have 20 months TA/RA (continuous, paid, 20 hrs/week, NOC 4012), that gives you 2/3 x 20 x 4 = 52+ full-time weeks which is above the required 1 year.
Please note that this is an estimate and you may have to count the actual number of weeks you worked for 20 hours/week in 8/2010-4/2012 and multiply by 2/3. If the equivalent is more than 52 full-time weeks, you should not worry about the break you had in Summer 2012 as it will be after you satisfied the 1 year requirement. Good Luck!

@noscaf2014 @DelPiero07: Thank You for your response.

I looked into my transcript and calculated the number of weeks for each semester + each summer .. (from the begin and end date mentioned for each term) from an online (date(s) input to weeks output calculator)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Semester: ~15 weeks 2 days OR 15 weeks 1 day
Summer: ~9 weeks 3 days
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calculation :

Aug 2010 -- April 2012: (20 months): TA/RA -- NOC-4012
Fall 2010 (TA, 20 hrs/week, NOC-4012) = 15 weeks 2 days
+
Spring 2011 (TA, 20 hrs/week, NOC-4012) = 15 weeks 1 day
+
Summer 2011 (RA, NOC-4012) = 9 weeks 3 days
+
Fall 2011 (TA, 20 hrs/week, NOC-4012) = 15 weeks 2 days
+
Spring 2012 (TA, 20 hrs/week, NOC-4012) = 15 weeks 1 day
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Considering
Summer 2011 (RA, NOC-4012) = 20 hrs/week

Number of weeks (Aug 2010 -- April 2012: 20 months)
= (15 + 15 + 9 + 15 + 15 ) weeks + 9 days
= 69 weeks + 9 days
= 70 weeks + 2 days

FTE Equivalent
= 70 * 2/3
=
46.66 weeks

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Considering Summer 2011 (RA, NOC-4012) = 40 hrs/week
Number of Part Time Weeks (Aug 2010 -- April 2012: 20 months)
= (15 + 15 + 15 + 15 ) weeks + 6 days
= 60 weeks + 6 days
= ~ 61 weeks

Summer 2011 weeks are full time weeks = 9 Full Time Weeks

FTE Equivalent
= (61 * 2/3) + 9
= (40.66 + 9) weeks
= 49.66 weeks
== ~50 weeks

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-- In both cases its below 52 weeks .. (ie: not meeting the 1 Year Continuous FSW Eligibility Requirement)

Question 1) Would CIC make an exception by accepting this (I think I worked Full-Time in Summer 2011: Thus 9 Full-Time weeks) as the difference is just for 2 weeks OR Are they really strict about meeting the 52 weeks requirement ?

Question 2) If I explain the Summer 2012 Break situation (why I took up the Summer Internship: The software I would be working on was used by the Dept. of Homeland Security, US Navy, law enforcement services etc, which got me more interested to be a part of it, and having gotton the opportunity I was keen to see how much of a contribution I could make etc etc), and then say that after I returned from the Internship I resumed my TA duties in the same department as I had been working.

Thus I try to claim: Aug 2010 - Sep 2012 (after I came back from Internship, 3 weeks of TA work ... [TA for 3 weeks of (20 hrs/week) = 2 weeks FTE equivalent]) towards the 1 Year Continuous FSW Eligibility Requirement .... (as @delpiero advised)

Would CIC be okay with this OR theres a possibility they would find my application in-eligible due to the 3 month break (3 months being a long break)?

If you are set on claiming such work experience as continuous then go for it, my answer remains the same.

There are situations in which considerable breaks in continuity (i'm talking months here) are acceptable but so far you have not mentioned anything that would suggest this applies to you. I will not post any further as I do not want to provide hints on how to go around this requirement.
Hi. What such situations may be acceptable? I am asking for a case where, say, I have 1600 hours of TAship but over Jan 2015-Apr 2016 and then Aug 2016-October 2017. So there's a summer break (may-Jul 2016). Will I still be eligible to enter the express entry pool?

Don't know if the OP is talking about foreign work experience or Canadian work experience -
(a) does not have to be continuous if it is Canadian work experience
(b) generally as long as the individual were still considered an employee (even if on an unpaid leave) it would not be considered discontinuous.

Don't know enough about the OP's situation to know whether this is an issue.
For a PhD student in BC, would this be eligible work experience for FSW:

TAship in Canadian university for the following periods
Jan 2015-Apr 2016 (14 hrs weekly)
Aug 2016-Oct 2017 (12 hrs weekly)
Total hours: 1600 approx

Would the break from May-Jul 16 affect eligibility?

Hi everyone,

I have a ten-month experience in one job plus a three-month (presently working) in another. Both jobs are under same NOC. However, there was like 10 days gap between the two (resignation process and reselling in a new country). Wondering if this short gap makes me ineligible regarding the continuity condition? Just as a note if it helps, there is no gap in terms of payment; I resigned and joined my new company in the same month. I've got payslip from both, old and new, for that month. Thanks.

Break in continuity is too considerable. If you were to create a profile you would have to purposely include the period that in which you received no pay as valid work experience to be eligible in the first place.
Dear DelPiero07,

I hoped you could, please, help me with the following:
Am I eligible to apply under FSW in September of 2020 if I started to work on the 26th of August of 2019 and plan to take an unpaid vacation between August 1st and August 20th. I plan to create a profile in October of 2020. Should I avoid taking a vacation?
