I think the truth of whether or not this is good news for Pre-June 2010 applicants as well as others in the backlog will only become apparent in the following weeks. I am certainly very cautiously optimistic...... :-\

Well, Why do u guys think good news or bad news? what will make it bad??? Its simple, they are trying to control the mumbers of applicants more to make processing faster...less applicants means more time for pre and post june applicants..so why would this be bad???just can't think of any reason..

NEW RULES FOR NEXT YEAR

Same 29 occupations as before, except they are limiting to 500 per NOC (with maximum 10,000) - so half the number of FSW1 as 2010-2011!

The good news is that with even less intake for 2011-2012, they will have more capacity with which to tackle pre-June-2010 applications.

Thanks for this Wayne. So its till fast fingers first

The changes will not affect the number of permanent resident admissions in 2011 in these three categories.

S this clearly means in near future CIC is seriously looking for to reduce the backlog

I guess they should the back log is really a crowd

I dont think so it will create any difference.
When the CAP limit was 1000 per occupation only 13682 applications were received after june 2010
This indicates worldwide skills shortage of these 29 occupations.
Secondly most of these occupations are like Electricians, Plumbers, Chefs etc Very few of these skills trades have adequate abilities in English which prevents them from Qualifying.
CHC is thinking to increase the language points of English and reduce the points of French. This will give some additional point leverage to skills trade occupations.

Now the CAP limit is 500 per occupation so we should expect slightly less number from June 2011 to June 2012.

Salman

Within the 10,000 limit, a maximum of 500 new applications in each of the current 29 priority occupations will be considered.

This is nice a least others could have a go at the applications.

At the end of this news they say:
"The CIC website will be updated on July 1, 2011, with details on application requirements and procedures for affected programs."

So this means that we cant send our application before we see new requirements, right ???

Yes we nees to wait till 1st July to see the requirnments and then send the application accordingly

Hi Wagne
This is really good news. I am so happy, i am waiting patiently. I have waited for so long, so let them try and do something.
I think in my opinion , they have taken the best decision.

Thanks for the news.

I completely agree. They need to balance things carefully. Clearly they MUST work hard to clear the backlog of 300,000 applications - but of course they cannot introduce all of these applicants, many of whom will not have in-demand occupational skills, into the economy all at once.

So by having a limited number of in-demand occupations they can work to clear the backlog over the next few years.

I am hoping they can reduce the total backlog to around 150,000 by this time next year, and hopefully more or less eliminate it altogether by the year after.

With no backlog CIC should then be able to completely turn around skiller worker applications from receipt at CIO to issue of visa within 6 months.

No changes @ sad news for IT people again :(.

Goodbye IT for one more year !!!

Now, CIC is clearly gonna be looking at reducing the backlog as well as making the path to create more jobs available for the already injected PR visa holders and the ordinary Canadians.

People have sent numerous mails to Immigration minister, their law makers to reduce the backlog..
They have listened to the cries of millions....

Indeed. And even more so this year - with only 500 slots per NOC, and don't forget many applicants will have their applications ready to send, unlike last year. I think we could see some NOCs filling up quite quickly so try to get your applications as soon after 1st July as possible!

Of course, this involves taking a guess at the points matrix - so I'd probably guesstimate based on the proposed changes. You can leave it until 1st July to be doubly sure, but then some NOCs could get to 500 in a matter of days.

On my CIIP course we attended last week, I noticed that practically every single province has IT as an in-demand occupation. Seems crazy that IT is in-demand provincially everywhere, but federally nowhere! When I spoke to one of the course tutors there she said that there is a lot of pressure from the provincial governments to include IT on the federal skilled list.

Such things don't happen overnight - but she felt that there could be changes to the list later this year or possibly early next year.

However, I guess the good news is that provincial nomination is a good route for IT workers. Since if you can land a job the province can sponsor your residency application and you don't need an LMO if you go down that route. So my advice to IT based occupants is to look into provincial nomination until such a time as the Federal government decides to add IT onto the in-demand list.

Well clearly a solution needs to be found for the 300,000 skilled worker applicants still in the backlog. The government can't ignore them, nor can the government could afford the $300 million+ it would take to refund those applicants their processing fees, so therefore easing them into the system is the only way forward.

My guess and hope is that they will look to completely clear this backlog over the next 2 years or so - maybe 150,000 in 2011-2012 year and the remaining 150,000 in the 2012-2013 year.

Once the backlog is clear with these new changes introduced last year I believe applications can be finalised in 3 to 6 months for everyone, from CIO received to actually getting visa stamped.

Well it's certainly better news than CIC increasing the number of applications it is planning to take in.

Once they've processed the 10,000 July2011+ applications, and the remainder of the 13,800 June2010+ applications - what do you expect them to do for the rest of the year
a) Clear the backlog
b) Twiddle their thumbs

:)
