Hi,
My boyfriend from Uganda is hoping to visit me in Vancouver next year, and we are just beginning to fill out his TRV application. I am a student and employed with a pretty good job, and am planning to write him a letter of invitation. He has a job in Uganda and is getting letters from his employer and a colleague (for character). He owns a house but I don't think he has land ownership papers... but I was going to suggest that he try to get another letter from a family or community member to show that he is involved and of good character. I just have a few questions, because neither of us have done this before and it seems like a pretty nit-picky process!
- the main question... do I invite him as a friend or state that he is my boyfriend? I've seen mixed views so far on the site, and was hoping to get some advice from someone who has had this work for or against them?
- should we just can the whole "visiting me" thing, and just make some hotel and tour bookings that we can cancel later?
- H works in tourism so he has made a bunch of friends in Canada. We thought another option could be him coming to visit a few of us, so that we each sent a letter of invitation and it just looks like he's going to do a bit of a tour around BC
- Does showing my character (if I send an invitation letter) matter? ie. should I include a letter from someone like my employer?
- Even though he makes pretty good money in Uganda, this doesn't translate that well into Canadian dollars. I can lend him some money to have in his account so he can include bank statements in his application, but do they just ask for a balance? Or should it be added in gradually? And how much would you recommend for a one-month visit?
- Last one: we also considered applying for a temp working visa, as he works as a tourism adventure guide and could easily find a position here in BC. We decided to do the TRV first because it's cheaper and a shorter processing time... do you know if it helps to have the TRV then apply for a temp working visa?
Sorry to ask so many questions, we're just hoping to get it right the first time! I only have a month free for him to visit in the spring, so we want to be able to plan it soon
Thanks a lot!!!
Caitlin
