Yes, but I’m guessing that is because they did not begin their application? I should have been more specific sorry... Once you have begun your application you should be fine. For the time being, if there is no documentation that you are trying to resolve status (become a permanent resident) then you could be deported if you are pulled over etc. My lawyer told my fiancé to carry around his receipt from the immigration processing fees at all times just in case. This way it will show authorities that you are taking all the right steps to be in Canada legally. Hope that helps :)

I believe you're right about being ok once you apply for PR.. I thought before that you just meant being married or common law without an application, sorry! :)
