What would you suggest that he does to try to find a job ?. Any information will be helpful thank you :-)

I will be up with my girlfriend in a week. What government agencies can we contact while I 'm up there with an emphasis on job searches and evaluate our situation. We would like to begin getting me up in about six months.

Again, if you do not meet the NAFTA criteria (and it sounds like you may not), you will have to find an employer who is willing to jump through the appropriate hoops to prove that they can't hire a Canadian to do the job and get a Labour Market Opinion that would let you take that job.

You may need to rethink the idea that you will be moving permanently to Toronto in November, unless you are willing to go for a rather long time without a job.

I have to concur that you may go a rather long time without a job. I've been without a job since July 2011 - when I moved to Canada. My former company has branches in both Canada and the USA - they wouldn't even hire me, despite my insanely good references and job performance back home.

I feel (this completely my opinion based on my experience) that is a bias against Americans when giving LMOs. A lot of those jobs want workers from poor countries in Asia or Africa because those employees "work harder" and "complain less." Whereas, Americans know if you work more than 40 hours, they get overtime pay, etc. It's not entirely true, of course, because there are some Americans I've talked to with a work permit - just seems to be the overall trend.

If you're living in Toronto, there' virtually no chance to get a LMO as a cashier at a retail store. The store won't be able to convince HRSDC that there aren't Canadians available for the job.

I would go to Kijiji (www.kijiji.com) and search under jobs for "LMO" or "TFW" (temporary foreign worker) and see what comes up. I bet you'll see a lot more people begging for a LMO job - any LMO job. Probably a few nanny jobs, maybe a few in other "semi-skilled" fields such as plumber, welder, pipefitter, etc. Cook is another one I see a lot (although I live in Alberta), but you'll need to have relevant experience to get the work permit. The last option is Food Counter Attendant (FCA). Some restuarants hire almost exclusively on LMO for FCA. Pay is awful. Competition for the jobs is fierce. Some postings get over 1000 applicants. You would have to make a real impression to stand out.
