Some point about this issue:
1-Your SIN will automatically be valid until the end of your implied status (either you hear from your work permit or your PR). You don't need to update it. Explain this to your employer. That should be enough.
2- Your Bank shouldn't need it immediately. So there shouldn't be any problem.
3- Bank generally need SIN for information about your taxes. If you have any saving account, or TFSA, or RRSP account, Bank uses your SIN number to let CRA know of your information, CRA uses these information to decide how much limit you have in your TFSA and if you need to pay any taxes. Also, if you have any saving outside the TFSA, banks issue a T5 tax slip that is based on your SIN number
4- As soon as you receive any result from either your PR or BOWP, renew your SIN number and give it to your employer and your bank. (don't give it to anyone else!)
5- If you don't have PR, you can't get any loan or mortgage.period. Then, why worry about having sin or not.

Hope these helps

5. Are you talking about when on implied status? Or in general without a PR?
Cause I already have a car loan and a pre approval for mortgage without being a PR...

Did you also get approved? Usually, an updated indicates that something has changed in your application.
Hi ,
I hope someone can help me regarding the employment section of the BOWP application. It says to list 10 years of employment but only space for 3 jobs. Do we have to attach extra pages for the employment if ones has more than 3 jobs?? Do we print out the " continued employment section " and leave or cross out the other sections of the extra pages. Please help !! Appreciate the help!!

I was talking with a friend of mine that is an Immigrant Consultant and apparently, they prioritize people that have families here and also the ones that their work permit is about to finish.
I heard that they prioritize people with dependents as they have more hardships to go through. But, I don't think that the date teh work permit is about to finsih matters because they already put "implied status" there to help those people. It seems that BOWP is more on a almost FIFO base.

Oh interesting, I didn't know that you can get a mortgage without PR. I asked RBC on a couple of occasions, and they mentioned that you should have PR before being able to get a mortgage.
See this for instance

Anyways, I never searched for it that much. Maybe it depends on the bank and their policies.
Thanks for the info

guys who are waiting for BOWP:
I applied for BOWP on Jan. 10, withdrew on March 19th.
Today, I received a ghost update and the confirmation of withdrawal.
It seems that they started working on the files that they received on Jan. 10th. If you applied close to that time, you should hear some news soon
