I recently was issued a BOWP (took 60+ days) and was wondering if it's possible to obtain an open work permit for my spouse via flagpole? Obviously it would not have been possible to obtain my BOWP with this method, but is it possible for spousal work permits?

The reason I didn't apply for my spouse at the same time as mine is because we were worried it would increase the already long delays in obtaining my BOWP.

Thanks in advance for any advice on the matter!

Yes, ecas does show medical results received.

My case as well (I'm the spouse!). I'm trying to find out if this case is eligible for flagpoling, because we don't want to travel to Niagara for nothing...

Interesting question.

Would like to know what PMM thinks?

I remember I read somewhere that if you come from a country that requires TRV, you are are unable to apply for work permit at the point of entry but I think this is a different situation.

What I found out about coming from a country that requires TRV is that there are situations where your are eligible (Regulation 190 (3)(f)(i) and (ii)). I really think it depends on each case, that's why is so hard to find a specific situation that is exactly like the one we need.

Anyone, about flagpoling, please?

My husband's documents are all ok - I'm the one applying - , so I'm also thinking if it would be a good ideia for him to come with me (to the US booth, or just wait for me at the Canadian side), even if he's not the one flagpoling?

Taking his documents (study permit, work permit), my passport and our marriage certificate would be enough?

Thanks all!

Ok, we tried to flagpole today for my spouse's open work permit (to accompany my recently issued BOWP). The friendly officer told me that although my spouse met the requirements for this category, they still need to apply online! Frustrating!

I'm not entirely sure the agent's information was correct, but I don't really feel like wasting another half day in the hope we get a more receptive officer.

Really?? I'm so sorry to hear that!! Did they give you any specific reason for not issuing the WP, or just like that, told you to apply online? That's really frustrating...

BOWPs cannot be issued at the border.

The only work permits that can be issued at the border are (a) for citizens of visa-exempt countries that (b) have a job offer with an LMIA or for LMIA-exempt job (e.g. NAFTA, ITC).
