Context:
My spouse and I had sent our application for PR under CEC in Aug 2014 and have received the AOR. Both of us have open work permits that expire early next year. As the principal applicant, I am aware that I need to apply for a bridging open work-permit 4 months (or less) before the expiration date.

My spouse and I are currently employed in full-time jobs in Canada, with open work-permits. (Her open work-permit was obtained by virtue of my existing open work-permit.)

I have viewed the online link which defines various eligibility criteria for Bridging Open Work Permit applications: www . cic . gc . ca / english/resources/tools/temp/work/prov/ bridging.asp

My Question:
Is my spouse also eligible to apply for a bridging open work permit/open work-permit?
If so, can we apply together?

Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm in a similar situation as you and I've just applied for 2nd set of BOWPs for myself and my spouse last week (first BOWPs were expiring).

So, yes, she is eligible too. When applying for BOWP you will have an option to add your spouses application. Both BOWP applications will require the same set of documents (+ you'll need to get your spouse to fill in and sign a very simple form authorizing you to submit one for her - you submit it with the applications).

c2h5oh,

Thank you for your reply. That is comforting to hear.

Medical requests are usually sent to via e-mail or post?

Yes, you can submit both applications together. But only the PA is eligible for a BOWP - the spouse will get an SOWP based on the BOWP.

Can you tell me does that small form need to be signed by her by hand and then scanned? Or just she needs to type her name on computer? I'm confused with that online applying and signing.

if a signature is requested, it needs to be signed by hand and scanned.

Hello,

I am in the same boat as you were. Would you be able to let me know the name of the form? Is it a part of the compete BOWP form package?

Can I ask for an advice. My current BOWP is expiring is Feb 2016. I will be applying for another one soon, would like add my spouse as well. He is currently in India, do not carry any work permit or visa. I have filled out the questionnaire to get the set of documents that I need to submit. In that they listed "Purpose of travel". Do you know what can I include in that?

Thanks in advance

Could someone please help me with this...

I applied for BOWP in September 2015 and recently got married and would like to know how can I apply BOWP for my spouse? Do I need to wait till I get my BOWP result and then apply one for her or can I add her application now after I submitted my application? also what documents will be required when I apply BOWP for my spouse?

Only the Principal Applicant (you) is eligible for a BOWP.

But, she may be eligible for a spouse's open work permit, based on your BOWP.

She has to apply for her own open work permit in her country.

She would need a copy of your old BOWP and the application for the new one (or, yes, it would be easier to wait until you got the new BOWP, but not strictly necessary).

She would also need proof of your employment (letter of employment, recent paystub) in a skilled occupation (NOC O, A, or B).

Alternatively, she could apply for a visitor's visa, and then once she is here, she can apply for the SOWP from inside Canada.

Thanks jes_ON

PLZ HELP!!!

I would need some advise regarding my husband visa. This is my situation,

Applied for PR(under CEC) in Feb 2014. Got married in Jan 2015 and added my spouse to my PR application. Now, waiting for passport request email from CIC.
Im currently in Canada on bridging open work permit which is due to expire on Mar 2016. My husband is in India. Because PR is taking long time, I want to bring my husband here through any kind of visa. What is the best option? Can I ask him to apply for visitor visa from india? and then when he comes here, can i apply for my work permit extension and include my spouse open work permit application? Is this a good idea? Any other suggestions? pls advice.....

Thanks

Apply for a new BOWP (you can do it 4 months before the old one expires) and add SOWP (spousal open work permit) to it - you can send both at the same time.

Does this apply if spouse is outside Canada? I heard from one of CIC agent that I cannot apply for SOWP if he is not currently in Canada. Just want to ensure if that is true.

Thanks
