Folks,

I am filling the form 5708E for my wife and i see a field "Funds available for my stay", So what should be the minimum value that i should declare?

I see at the following link that atleast proof for $17,000 should be shown for a family of 3. Is that same under CEC as well?
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

So is that what i need to declare here?

Anyone with family did the BOWP?

Are you sure you are referring to BOWP? I applied on line with family, but did not use the form 5708, what is it? And there was nowhere asking me to prove the fund?

Hi GHD1213,

Since I am extending Visitor records for my wife and daughter, while i am extending my stay as worker. I am filling out 5708E for them and for me 5710.

For worker:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp
For visitor
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp

Am i doing something wrong?

I see, my wife has been worker here, so we applied together as worker.

Why don't you apply for owp for her upon your bowp? though I am not sure if you can change her status from visitor to worker WITHIN Canada? if it is allowed, it will get rid of the problem?

No you are not wrong. I applied for my BOWP last month along with my wife's OWP and my son's visitor's record. I put CAD 30000 in the Funds available for my stay (CAD). I din't provide any additional document. The application for everyone was approved on 7th Jan. Just waiting for the hard copies. Regarding funds, what amount you put, be prepared to provide supporting document if they ask for it. You can choose to include upfront details (like Bank statement, employment letter) as well.

Thanks vickhere!

So like GHD1213 is suggesting, can i apply for my wife's OWP from her visitor status? If so , any specific form to be filled out?

form 5710 is the change of status form same as yours. But as I said, be sure you are allowed to do so within Canada.

It is possible, I got my wife's status changed from Visitor to Worker last year. In my case my company applied on my behalf through some lawyers.

thanks for the confirmation, it strenghthend my knowledge. ;)

Thanks vickhere and GHD1213 !

Sorry, thought about one more thing....If i am applying for my wife Open Work permit from visitor status, it will be based on the validity of my work permit correct (My WP is expiring on 31st Jan 2014) ? Which means that first i should apply for visitor extension for family and then get a BOWP for me then apply open work permit , correct?

I too applied for my spouse from visitor record to work permit. They give the validity till your work permit validity. Only principal applicant can apply for BWOP. To extend your family work permit or visitor record you should have some offer letter before applying.

There is no use applying for your wife's visitor record extension as it is already valid till your existing work permit is valid. They can't extend your wife's visitor record beyond your existing work permit validity. You can apply together or you can apply for BOWP for yourself now then after you receive your BOWP you can apply for your wife's OWP. Given your timeline you should apply together as there is not much time.

He can apply with his family members together under his own cic account. His wife owp and his kids' extension will base on his approval of BOWP.
