Hi All,

I am applying for study permit from outside Canada. Someone in Canada is borrowing me money for my study permit application to put in my bank account. I learnt I can open a Canadian bank account from outside Canada, so this money will be deposited in a Canadian bank account open in my name.

Wondering if my visa can be approved?

If you are referring to GIC, then yes, it needs to be opened outside Canada. The fund must come from your bank account in your home country. If it comes from other sources (not from your bank account under your name), it will be rejected.

@rogelcorral thanks for this info!!!!!. appreciate you telling me it will be rejected if not from my bank account. a friend in Canada actually wanted to transfer the money- so based on your response, this is a no go area :-(.

The only downsize is that there's a limit to the amount one can withdraw with GIC.

If I open an ordinary bank account that's not GIC, will CIC still see that as being authentic? My friend in Canada can send the money to my account in my country and I'll then send to my Canadian account.

Thanks.

no worries, thanks. I'll call some banks.

mathewsimi, if your friend is paying I think you can just show evidence that tuition is paid. I paid ~50% of my tuition when applying ~5 years ao, and that helped I guess. Why do you want to show her details since (s)he isn't the one supporting/sponsoring you. If the help goes more than paying tuition e.g., giving you some money, then be sure to :
1. explain why the hepl
2. relationship
3. evidence of such help in the past

this is important if you aren't related.

Generally, I think if you can pay your tuition you stand a chance - all things being equal.

Al the VO wants to see is ho you will support yourself in Canada so you won't have to rely on public funds and your connection to your home country. Good luck
