Hi, I was born in Canada in the year 1994. I moved to Malaysia when I was around 3-4 y/o and has acquired a Malaysian citizenship. But, I'm thinking of moving back to Canada to work there after i complete my studies. Am I eligible for Canadian citizenship? Any help regarding this would be very much appreciated. Thanks =)

I believe you should be able to get your citizenship if you apply for it .. you need your birth certificate to apply .. all my kids were born in Canada and they get it on immediate basis !

Good luck ^_^

1. You are a citizen but if one of your parents was on the protocol list/ diplomatic status sorry you are not.

2. As I recall Malaysia doesn't allow dual nationality. This is more an issue for those naturalised for their second/other nationality because at Malaysian passport renewal you will get sweated especially if you are a male of military service age. Malaysia sets the example for border control and actually had the first electronic chip passport so the government knows your travel history good! The Malaysian constitution also has some ambiguity in relation to what constitutes 'giving up' Malaysian citizenship so do check this out too.

Hi, as Msafiri said you're entitled to Canadian Citizenship simply by showing your Canadian birth certificate as a proof (Unless ONE of your parents was a diplomat or a government official on official mission in Canada AND none of your parents was a Permanent Resident or Canadian citizen at the time of your birth )

You simply need to apply to the Canadian Embassy with your birth certificate.

However, you may have trouble with the Malaysian side because Malaysia doesn't allow dual citizenship as illustrated here :
