Border Crossings Question

When applying for citizenship, one must have accomplished 1095 days out of 4 years of physically being in Canada. That said, are there "partial days" one travels out of the country? Ex: Going across the border to collect mail, etc - total amount of time out of the country 20 minutes. I have assumed once one steps out of the country it's considered a day, but I'd like some confirmation.

It is the date. If you go out on Aug 30 11.59 PM and come back Aug31 12.01 AM you are out for one day.

If you are out on Aug 30 12.01 AM and return by Aug 30 11.59 PM you have returned on the same day. So you are physically present even if you do this daily.
