great, thanks so much,

and regarding the translation does it have to be a translator approved by canada or colombia ?

not sure where to find them.

No, just an official translator. They have their own stamps and stuff. Look some up at Alianza Francesa or something? Maybe you can call them, I'm sure they either offer that service or have connections with official french translators.

thanks so much !

another quick question.

we are getting married in 3 weeks, and I am wondering how long it takes after the actual wedding to get the wedding certificate, it's only civil not religious.

Hi Everybody,

Just continuing this thread. I am from Canada and I am sponsoring my wife and her daughter to come to Canada. Here are my dates so far:

Category: FAM
Application Received: July 4, 2014
AOR(Mississauga): August 25, 2014
Sponsorship Approval: August 25, 2014
AOR(Bogota Visa Office): September 3, 2014

I am curious as to everybody's experience as to how long after AOR in Bogota that they request the Background check? And then how long after that until the passport is requested?

Not sure in Canada, but if you get married in Colombia the certificate could be requested and be given right away after the wedding in the same Notary

Congratulation in your sponsorship approval and welcome to the group JoeMac. I got my AOR2 in August 7th and I'm still waiting for the background check request from the embassy, I'm hoping to get it this month and then passport request in October maybe November,

fingers crossed

That is correct lellen! "Autenticar los documentos" or "Autenticar la copia". At the notary they will ask you for the original and the copy, and you just need to wait for notary to put the seal and pay the fee.

we don't have to original of the birth certificate and we have a union marital(Union libre) and we dont have the original we have a copy. but with a stamp....
I have her birth certificate here that was needed for another thing a few months ago, just wondering if that the notarized stamp on it or I need to go there to get something else.

Normally we just ask for a copy and that's what they give us.

it says on the back notaria... certifica que la presente es fiel y exacta fotocopia del original tomada del registro civil que reposa en esta notaria que se expide a solicitud del interesado , theres the date, the stamp with notary's signature.

That should be the notarized version! When you get it officially translated, the translator will also translate that part.

queimmi, I worked on a spreadsheet for the Colombia VO 2014 but I don't feel comfortable sharing it because stupid Google won't let me be anonymous! It makes me incredibly paranoid. However, when I tracked everyone's progress going through this thread, people got a background certificate request about a week after receiving AOR 2. Also, I sent my certificate already and I got a response from the VO about two hours later! So now they have it. I recommend you do it now...

Thank you lellen, I'll tell my wife to go to the bank then,

I was afraid because a friend told me that the embassy did not like to receive information before requested. :-\

Hi...

So I have a spreadsheet for Bogota. I basically stalked the forum and added whatever data users posted to create it. Hopefully we'll have more people update it and/or add themselves.

Thank you very much lellen for the spreadsheet! nice work!

You're welcome! I wish we had more data! I honestly have no idea what to expect. Have you been contacted by Bogota at all?

Hi guys,
So I just got into the game now.

They received my package today!

let's hope for the first step by christmas :)

Great! I added you to the spreadsheet. I'm sure first step will happen way before Christmas. :)
