I applied for Alberta Registration. I got everything done other than the CRNE exam for which I am going to think about it once my PR is processed.

I am a May 2010 applicant and my documents was sent to the visa office on friday Oct 15, 2010. Still a long way to go.

Cheers, Sans_May2010

I have no idea about the SEC. I dont know what is this all about.

My application was sent on September 2009 and I got a user account from the alberta nursing baord. When I got into my account online, I fould everything is good enough and I just need to clear the CRNE exams which I can only do from Canada. I am in my initial stage of the PR process and have a long way to to get my PR processed. So I am not thinking much about it at this point of time.

I may need to prepare for CRNE which I will do once the visa office ask for the medicals.

Advise me about SEC if you have any idea about it.

Dont worry much about the registration, its quite simple. The only thing consumed my time was contacting the nursing counsil to send my registration details to the Alberta Nursing board on their application form. This took two days for me and the alberta nusing board got it in 55 days from the day I applied. Everything else was just all right.

Take it easy

Best Regards, Sans_May2010

most nurses are afraid to apply to Alberta because the education here in the Phils is not equal to their standards... thats why they are required to take the SEC. its assessment of some sort of your skills plus you will take an exam... something like that and you might enroll in a school to take the remaining subjects deemed important to become a nurse in AB.. just my opinion. others may comment

Thanks for opening this thread... My wife is an RN in the U.S but with an Associates Degree. Which Province in Canada will be easier to start working as an RN?. I heard that with an Associate RN degree in the U.S, your can only be eligible for a Licensed Practical Nurse LPN in Canada if you pass their exam and not for their RN exam unless you go back to school in Canada for the U.S degree to be equivalent to canada's, Is it true???
Please keep us informed if have any info.. tnx!

Yea I heard the same like Alberta has a different standards. But mine went OK till now. I havent been asked about SEC and I checked my account just now and its mentoned nowhere. Hope I dont need to take any other tests.

Some of my friends who arrived in Canada says it much better to choose Ontario. The pay is good there and LPN's assists RN's there. I dont know much. Anyway I am not planning to change my destination as I have some friends there in AB.

All the best, Sans_May2010

ur welcome. Im an NCLEX passer myself but its useless for them because you have to take their exam. As with ur wife, i believe the board of canadian is looking for a bachelor degree holder. i dnt know for ADN. Manitoba sounds fine but u need a PR visa. Same thing for Saskatchewan... for alberta-they are a bit strict they require nurses to train or study and take SEC as what my classmate did shes there still studying now. though the place is nice and nice pay too...

Thanks for replying! She has the visa already and about to complete her landing.. She's currently waiting for the Ontario province decision to finalize her application for LPN( Assist RN) so that she can take the exam. She doesn't mind being LPN in canada for now until she takes all the equivalent classes to qualify for RN in canada even though she is already one in the U.S.. How is your exam prep going? Are u in Ontario?? take care!
