Can you blame them :D

So this is indeed 5K, then it means min 8-10K for a set of parents ( some single ) + lot with deps so avg it out say 12-13K and current backlog of some 2008/9/10/mid-11 yet to be done. Overall, this is like another 5-6+ year ordeal
Read here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/department/media/backgrounders/2013/2013-10-29a.asp

They predict wait time to be cut in half this year. Now whether this actually happens is another story

And CIC assumed 5000 applications will equal 9000 people.

You've seen the number of questions about the "income calculations/proof" on here.. This is just the tip of the iceberg of people who think that they know better than the CIC documented requirements... After all, we are a very small, yet well informed, island in the great sea of Canadian immigration applicants. Who knows how many out there know nothing of this and similar forums and are trying to apply with "pay stubs" and T4s?
Very true. I hope they release the final numbers of this 2014 round like how many apps were returned, date they reached the cutoff etc.

Parents "may" have some eligible dependants, but grandparents will almost certainly not have.
Considering the age group of the sponsors, I don't foresee many grandparents being spnsored

A quick look at the stats from data.gc.ca for the existing Parents/Grandparents applications indicates a approval rate of 93%, which is way higher than I guessed. maybe the new applications will achieve a similar level? Who knows.

Sorry that the table is a mess.

OK, at the risk of being boring, the number of applications that resulted in the number of "persons" (39,447) processed was 22,044. This gives an average of approximately only 1.8 persons per application.
