Hi, my fiance lives in canada and from the first time I went there I have been treated rudely, and openly accused of being a criminal. Well I went to visit my fiance for valentine's day and was given a vistor's visa and told I needed to leave on the 28 of february. Unfortunately, ticket costs were too high to allow me to leave on the 28th so I had to leave two days later. Now I want to visit my fiance again so we may get married and start the PR process in-land, but I am afraid I may be blacklisted. Is there a number I can call to find this out? Or A website even?

If it helps I'm from America... Specifically Texas

Thanks in advance for anything you may be able to tell me. :)

What do you mean by accused of being a criminal? Did they say you did something where you have not done or convicted of? or just made you feel like you are a criminal?

I have crossed 5 times in 1 1/2 year and first two times were very rough. They did treat me like I did something wrong. I am sure not all IO are like that but some are. Just be cautious how you word your visit to them esp when you are crossing to get married. You certainly don't want them to think you are not going to leave the country.

Like you I thought I was "flagged"..well, maybe I was, but I have successfully crossed 3 more times without any problems. Maybe it will get better once you establish your crossing records that you went back as you said you were going to and didn't overstay.

GOod luck!!

They just made me feel like I was doing something wrong by coming there, and they treated me like I was doing something wrong. I have attempted to do it four times, the refused entry the third time, and the fourth time I'm sure the lady pitied me.

aww I am sorry to hear you were refused before! What did you tell them to IO when you crossed? Do you have any background that they may have a problem with? Just curious.
I understand how nerve wrecking it is to cross the border but we just need to keep trying even they give us a hard time. :( Maybe next time it won't be bad..I think the most of the time it depends on which IO you are dealing with. I have had some that didn't even try to intimidate me and some did.

I always go into Ottawa international airport. They know me quite well there. I was planning on staying there for another six months and we were going to get married, and get all the paper work started, but they refused me entry on the grounds that I wouldn't leave. Then a month later we tried getting me in again for 6 months, but this time we had taken some steps to show them that I would leave. Once again I was refused, but this time they allowed me a two week stay, to which I left late. This time around me and my fiance plan at meeting at Ogdensburg, NY which is a two hour drive or so from him and then after the civil ceremony, going back together.

I am just really worried that I may be blacklisted. My dad mentioned it to me the other day that it might be a possiblity seeing how I left late on a vistor's pass/visa. I want to ensure that I am not blacklisted and end up getting banned for a year or longer. My fiance and I have been together for 2 1/2 years, we just want this to be over so we can get on with our lives.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Leaving after the date they stamped on your passport could become a problem but not sure to what extend since you left before you were asked to leave. I am sure someone on this board can help you answer your questions.

but meanwhile check out this site from us2canada on visitor record.

Some border and immigration officials are rude and behave as if they think everyone is a criminal - some are just jerks, but some do it because they want to rattle you, hoping that if you are a criminal or are lying about your intentions you will be intimidated and confess. The last time I went to the USA the border official was the same - he very aggressively insisted I tell him about my problems with the police, and kept hounding me when I said I'd never had any. I was surprised at the time, though.

I think the best thing is to not get rattled, just think they are only doing their job, and try to answer without getting upset.

They might be racist, though - are you African-American, if I may ask?

Blacklisted? That's undertaken lightly. You should email me and skip the attitude. Do you want to be with your fiance or prove a point? Either or.

Your not blacklisted as they dont stamp your passport when you leave its only you that knows you left a little late.
And like Canadian Woman said it is their job to rattle your chians.US does it when your going back home too,i drive transport and the american drivers say they get much more hasstle going back to their own country than they do coming in.Its just customs/immigrations job.
Dont worry about it they will get use to seeing you and they will know eventually whay your there if they see you enough.See they did their job well they did scare you lol.

This is not unusual treatment at all at a Canadian port of entry when someone is coming into the country to visit a romantic partner. There is too much risk that the person will not return home when they're supposed to and will, instead, stay in Canada and get married and maybe not apply as they should for legal, permanent status. They may be rude (undoubtedly) but most of the time they're not stupid considering how often exactly what they're trying to guard against actually happens. And, unfortunately, Americans do this more often than probably anybody else (I can say that because I'm American myself, but I also see where CIC helps create the problem because they do not tell us what's expected of us) - so we get the worst of it.

The best advice I can give you is to read through the information about "Visiting" on the US2Canada.com site. It tries to explain the mentality that exists, and why we are mistaken to think that we are somehow entitled to come to Canada anytime we want to, to stay for however long we think we should be able to . . . because we're in love. I was, a long time ago, naive enough to think they'd actually celebrate with me the fact that I'd found the love of my life. Not, LOL!

I can tell from some of the stuff you're saying that you don't yet "get it", and I'm not criticizing - I'm telling you this to protect you from being put in a position where they get really testy with you and actually even exclude you from Canada for a couple of years. Yes, they can do that, and they will if they feel like it. You're not necessarily "blacklisted", but you are probably in their files as someone who has a significant attachment in Canada, which makes you a risk of overstay and they will hassle you every time you try to enter by yourself. So you have to know the game and play it smart. You're not going to have an easy time of it now, ever, until after you're a PR - but it will help when you're finally married to have your spouse enter with you and speak on your behalf. Be sure that if you're admitted to Canada to wait out your PR processing after your marriage, that you keep the temporary status they give you current and also, I'd advise that you NOT apply inland for PR. You're not required to, even if you're in Canada, and it will take 3 times as long to process as an outland ap being finalized through Buffalo. The inland PR process does not give you status - the work permit you can get after first stage approval will likely not come until after you'd have finalized PR on an outland ap, you lose your right to appeal a refusal (see this thread) and, literally, all you need to remain in Canada while waiting for the outland ap to process is the temporary status they give you on entry. So, Good Luck, happy reading, and please feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. You can PM me if you want.

The same thing happened to me the last time I tried going to Canada. When you went did you take some type of proof showing that you were going to be returning to the US? I'm surprised they even let me in, they harassed me quite a bit and stapled a form in my passport demanding I leave by a certain date.

A couple of things you said are red flag to me.

First why do you need a Visitor Visa? Are you a US citizen? If so I don't believe you need a visitor visa.

Second you mentioned staying for "Another" six months. And then on at least one occasion you were denied access. Sounds to me like you were caught overstaying as a visitor from the US, and you want to stay yet another six months. If you overstayed once I'm sure you will be marked as such.

I've been treated the same way, pretty much every time I've flown into Canada - and I'm a Canadian! I've lived in Texas practically my whole life and every time I go to visit family there, the officer at the airport gives me a million questions and attitude. I don't get it. I suppose they have to be that way. If they were awesome and friendly to everyone, then every weirdo in the world could come in! :)

I highly doubt you're blacklisted, that's just they way they are...

Good luck!!

To be fair I believe that was to motivate me into leaving on time.

To be honest I'm not sure what the paper was, they stapled it in my passport. All I know is that it has terms and condictions of my stay.
Yes I am a U.S. citizen.

Back in 2008/2009 I stayed with my fiance for 6 months. Then in jan. I thought I could go back for another six months. The refusal of entry were the cause of several things. No money in my account, even though his family was paying for me. No return ticket, no ties to america, and no insurance. I admit, now, that what they did makes sense, but at the time it was depressing, confusing and oh so costly to get me home. So for valentine's day we adressed all those problems, except for the ties to america. Which is why they stapled that thing in my passport and then told I had two weeks.
