My wife (living with me in the USA) is pregnant. I hope to land in Canada before the child is born, but we are prepared for a birth in the USA. I understand that I must inform Canadian Immigration of our newborn if my wife gives birth before PR visa is issued.

My question is: What if I receive my PR visa before the birth, but I wait and land after the birth? Is it then just a matter of informing the I/O upon landing of my new addition to the family? Our child will be Canadian citizen as my wife is Canadian.

Many thanks,

As the child well be a Canadian citizen (you should ensure that you get proof of citizenship some time in the future as it will save problems later in the child's life) you don't have to include the child in the application or inform CHC.

We are trying to find out how to register our newborn child as citizen of Canada. Form CIT0006 seems to be what we need to fill out, but the processing time for this seems to be very long! It is my understanding that we can still cross the border as the child is also US citizen by birth and doesn't require any travelling documents.

- Can our newborn cross the border and we then apply for proof of citizenship from within the country?
- Will this be any issues for me upon landing as I don't have a proof of Canadian citizenship for my child?

Dear sir,

Thank you very much for the valuable contribution, I have a further query, I have applied for Canadian Immigration under FSW from Dec. 2009, I sent the initial application to CIC Canada with demand draft if CAD 1400. After that I submite all the documents to UK office as per instruction. I received a confirmation letter from High Commission of Canada (UK) regarding my application (07.08.2010).

Now we have a new born baby (26.08.2011) I have just completed with the documents incl. birth certificate and passpoert etc. Please let me know that where to send the new Demand Draft of CAD 150/-? Canada or UK? my file is in process in UK office (all Pakistani cases are now a days processing in UK office).

Its clear from the letter I received that intimation should be sent to UK office but I am not clear where to send the Demand Draft of CAD 150/-

Please advise...

hi,

it's much better to have a smooth travel by the time you want to land in canada..I strongly suggest to get your child a proof of citizenship from your country if you really plan to have your child in the USA. As far as i know, you cannot get that inside canada or across the border, because that needs to be process. The child will be a canadian citizen anyway no matter what because of your wife is canadian. it's just another paper work has to be done. I guess you have to think about again the birth plan of your child, since you have the ideas already...or you can land first and go back to USA for a visit, if the baby in her belly would permit you to go back there. coz who knows she might give birth on the road..pregnancy can be induce sometimes in a bumpy road or by long travel, you should include that in your plans as well...CONGRATSSS by the way :) :) :)
