My boyfriend is the principal applicant. He was born in the Phillipines, but he has the canadian citizenship already. However his family members (mom and brother) are still permanent residents. In this case, do they have to provide documents such as birth and married certificates?
Thank you

Hi,

If your boyfriend is a Canadian Citizen then he would be the sponsor in the application. I assume that you are applying to come to Canada. Under which category, common law? In that case, you would be the principle applicant.

No, he is a canadian citizen and the principal applicant. I'm asking if his family members need to provide any documents.

So is he applying to sponsor you to come to Canada? As what, common-law relationship?

As far as I know, only the principle applicant has to submit documents for their family members.

The definition of family members does not include siblings or parents. Only children and potentially grand-children. If you are married, then it would also include a non-Canadian spouse. However, as he is your boyfriend and he is Canadian I assume this is not applicable.

It would help to know a little bit more about what you are applying for and your situation before giving better advice.

Yes, we're going to apply under spousal sponsorship, we'll be married, since I already live in Canada. But you already answered my questions, I thought we should provide documents from our parents and sibilings. Thank you
