Re: utterly confused and no help in sighT!!

Thanks guys for all the tips. Sorry I was out of town and couldn't reply earlier.

As the indian high commission in Canada, you can only get a certificate of birth and not a birth certificate. I know!!! its crazy. The CIC doesnt accept that or atleast thats what I have been told.

I am trying to get the birth certificate organized and it may take a month or so. My question is -

Can I apply and start the process now with all the other documents and other proof of the birth certificate and send in the non-availability certificate of birth certificate later, when I manage to get it? Is that acceptable?

Hi there,

I was also wondering that Do I have to get a police certificate from Canada as well (I am here as a student for the past year)? As I'll be taking the outland route while staying in canada (from my home country).
I ask because I saw this: http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/security/police-cert/north-america/canada.asp

Well, the embassy just gives you a letter based on your passport which goes something like this:
"Based on the information in Mr/Ms. XYZ's passport, his date of birth on immigration records is......"

This doesnt help for CIC purposes I am told.

So, does anyone know if I have to do the police certificate from Canada as well (or will I be asked for them/fingerprints later?). Also, can I send it the birth certificate later, when I get it. Because I want to start the process atleast.

Any help/suggestions will be EXTREMELY helpful! :)

thanks guys
