You need to send the copy of original birth certificate and a translated copy if it is not in English/French language.

If you use a certified translator from the ATIO, you do not need to get the translator's affidavit.

Get photocopy of your original birth certificate, then notary certified it and send.

I called CIC. she said if the email says certified copy of original Birth certificate then notarized it. if it does not say any thing then just send a copy. but my original birth certificate is in Punjabi. In case i have to send it notarized can it be done in Canada or it has to go back to India from where i got the translated copy notarized.

in the mail it says:
Please note:
 It is urgent that you respond to our request for the additional information in the time frame
indicated below. If you do not respond, we will assume that you do not intend to provide us with
the information/document and your application will be returned to you as incomplete.
 If your documents are not in French or English, a certified (notarized) translation must be
submitted with a copy of the original version.

Add a translated notary certified of that also, and send these by case specific inquiry, there is an option to upload documents, last line second page.
