i m going to apply my PR under CEC in Ontario. few year before i lost my date of birth certificate in my home country. i m just wondering, do i really need my DOB certificate or i can use any other document for it. plzz help for it. thanks

Birth Certificate very important. Try to get another issued from your home country. OR
You can use your School Certificate to evidence your birth. Just make sure it has your full name, Date of Birth and your parents name in full (either father, mother or both). OR
Get an affidavit (Notary) evidencing your Date of Birth and that you do not have a Birth Certificate (either from your home country signed by your parents or here in Canada done by yourself).

These are the 03 options available and acceptable by CIC.

Affidavit I guess is the easiest way.

Do you know where these 3 options about birth certificates are in Vic website. My birth certificate shows wrong place of birth, so I called Indian consulate and they are telling me that they will provide certificate of date of birth not birth certificate. So does Anybody got this certificate from consulate and accepted by immigration. Please reply and share.

Certificate of birth issue by consulate is based on your passport. There have been case ( you can check in forum) that CIC has refused to accept this ceritificate of birth proof saying it is based on passport.

I can tell you what i sent to CIC for birth certificate proof :
1. Ceritificate of birth from consulate
2. 10th marksheet ( should have your name, your father name and your date of birth)
3. My Marriage certificate ( since it also had my parents name, my name and my date of birth)

A hand written letter explanining the reason for not having a birth certificate ( ie not issues in India at that time when i was born) and documents which i am attaching in place of that.

My application is accepted and i have received AOR.

Do take note that CGI issues a Certificate of Date of Birth and not Birth Certificate. Meaning - CGI will only authenticate and confirm whatever your date of birth as mentioned in the passport.

This is different than Birth Certificate and not acceptable by CIC.

This is only true for applicants born in India. More specific or relevant advice can be offered if we know the country...
