Birth certificate unavailable (Taiwan)

My wife doesn't have a birth certificate. In Taiwan, birth certificates are issued by hospitals, but she wasn't born in a hospital, she was born in a clinic and the clinic closed over a decade ago.

Will the household registration be sufficient to cover the question of birthdate and location? Or do we need to provide something else? It does not seem possible to get a birth certificate at all.

FYI, we used the English household registration (family registry book) as birth cert. as well. I have seen some TW applicants from different websites were using it. Therefore we gave it a try.

To further answer the question, I've found out that it should be possible to get a copy of the original birth certificate if one applies at the household registration office where the birth was actually registered. We're going to get that as well and have it translated into English just be on the safe side.

Yes! but for my case, would be another travel from current city to the birth place city. That's why we opt for household registration instead. (Please note I have read another case(online), the applicant did provide so called birth certificate (from the family registration office) and got turned down. It's better to have both family registry book and birth certificate in the application package. (make sure it contains parents' names and DOB)

Thanks again for replying. You've got me a little worried now. Did you use the hukou mingbu (戶口名簿) or the huji tengben (戶籍謄本)? My wife's household registration is not with her parents (they live in Taichung and we live in Taipei), so while her parents names appear on the huji tengben, their dates of birth do not.

I don't have access to the birth certificate yet, so I don't know if her parents' dates of birth are on it. It seems like an unreasonable burden to me; my own birth certificate doesn't give my parents' dates of birth.

Sorry for not making it clear. What I mean was your wife's dob should be shown on the paper together with her parents' names.
Don't worry. Just get both papers should be fine.
