Hi,

It is not mandatory. You don't need to submit birth certificate.

i have no experience with express entry since i filed before it was introduced , however i learnt one thing birth certificate is most important document. i submitted some consulate copy of birth certificate ,they returned my application and then i obtained my birth certificate , translated through canadian language authority ,certified and sent it to them.
i dont think so any PR appcation can ever be accepted without original birth certificate. my 2 cents.

I did not submit a birth certificate for myself in my CEC Express Entry application (and my application has been approved). I am from the Netherlands. Not sure if it differs per country, but I can't imagine it would.

However, I did have to submit a copy of my husbands' birth certificate, to prove he is a Canadian citizen.

Good luck!

As gregor.samsa stated, under older rules, birth certificates were mandatory, they are not any more (only for children to prove parentage).

Follow the checklist, that is up to date.

Hi,

I was planning to apply through the PhD stream for Canadian PR once I get my degree. But I read that I would need to submit my birth certificate which I do not have and cannot get reissued because I was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia but have lost all connection from that place and my family now resides in India. Should I apply through Federal Express Entry then? Since applicants do not require submitting a birth certificate in that stream? Please advise?

Best,
Roma

Hi @scylla / @canuck_in_uk ,
I was planning to apply through the PhD stream for Canadian PR once I got my degree. But I read somewhere that I would need to submit my birth certificate which I do not have and cannot get reissued because I was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and have lost all contact from that place. Also, my family now resides in India so it will be very difficult to plan a trip to Riyadh just for the sake of a birth certificate. In that case, should I apply through Federal Express Entry then? Since applicants do not require submitting a birth certificate in that stream? Please advise?

Best,
