Hi

My Son has taken biology,chemistry and physic in 12th standard and no maths, as maths was optional so. He wants to study biotechnology course in canada for his further studies. The College is asking for maths as a mandatory subject for this course. (disclaimer:- not talked to college on this, only web search and agent talk)

My question is, if maths is mandatory, then how can we take this course in that particular college. There are any ways? like giving any type of exams? or..........

I will be very thankful for this answers and thanks in advance.

They will make your son take a maths and an English test when he arrives in Canada if accepted for the program you applied. Based on how he does on those test, they’ll either make him take one or two maths and English courses in (probably) first two semesters. Apply regardless even if it says maths is prerequisite!

Will really depend on the school. Math is a a big prerequisite and the system is not set-up like the English as a second language remedial year. I would email the schools/programs you are interested in and ask about the missing math prerequisite.

Thanks for reply very fast

He has got 6.5 BAND no less than 6 in ielts and studied in english medium. Still he has to take English course as a subject.

And in maths, he has to take course, so college will make him study(they will teach) or has to study on his own for maths exams. As he is 17yrs old and till now he has not studied on his own(studied in school and tution and 12th is running) and we(parents) are sending him some where were we cant reach in few hours.

I will be very thankful of your answer on this.

Not sure if i understood all of it but yes he’ll still have to take English as a course, just because you understand the language doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve great communication skills. And regardless if he’s taken maths before, he’ll still have to go through a maths (and English) test so the school could determine where he stands in terms of their level. It’s a very basic maths test (high school level).
And can’t say anything about him being alone here and studying on his own. I understand your concern as parent but I don’t know you personally to give you an answer on that. If you’re really worried of your son being on his own, maybe plan to send him at a later time, when he’s out of his teens? Thanks, hope I helped you a little bit!

To follow up on the comments above, I admire what you are doing for your son and I am sure you care deeply for him and his future however, from what I have read so far I have gathered that 1. His English ability is minimal. An ielts score of 6 is not indicative of how he will do in his studies, never mind his ability to communicate with his peers and professors. 2. His lack of preparation for the program: shouldn't he have figured this out beforehand? 3. His maturity: Why are you here instead of him? It seems like you are worried about sending him abroad and his ability to live alone. When I was 17-18 I was the one figuring out my future and not my parents like many other kids my age because you are reaching adulthood and only you know what you need for your goals. Anyways, ultimately it is your family's decision to embark on this journey but remember not everyone is cut out for it and it is a lonely place to be when you are socially isolated from close ones with an incompatible personality and poor communication skills.
