Anyone know if there's some way (i'm told there used to be) one can enter U.S. without a visa just for a trip to Buffalo to give biometrics? Person our family is sponsoring is here on a tourist visa and they're not due back in Europe for another couple of months but they got an email from Canadian government that they need to submit their biometrics within 30 days. For some reason, you just cannot submit them in Canada, I don't know why. Another option is to ask for extension and get a visa to the States, I suppose.

I don't know but the whole process seems bizarre to me: so if we did the application inland, our family member would be exempt from biometrics (but they couldn't travel back and forth while it was being processed)... but if you do it outland, you can do that, except they won't let you do biometrics in Canada, even though they have facilities to do so. Not only that, the POE (port of entry) method is also specifically listed as not possible in this case (driving to border, exiting Canadian customs and turning around and going right back in). On what planet does this make sense?!? Have people designing the biometrics procedure not realized that there's a whole bunch of countries without visa requirement whose citizens might actually come to Canada and stay with their spouse while waiting for their application to be processed?
I am having a very similar problem as well. It is beyond frustrating and financially costly traveling far into another country just for biometrics which I am sure centres in Canada could easily handle. Does anyone know if there are any plans on opening VACs within Canada that are not POE, or at least opening the POE ones to those who are applying for sponsorship?
The poster above me highlighted absurdity of this process nicely. At this point it seems we can only hope for them to open VACs within Canada in near future or waste money on very inconvenient long distance travel.

Has anyone applied for Visitor Visa Extension (Temporary Resident Visa Extension) within Canada recently?
I am currently staying in Canada with valid Work Permit and applied for the extension of Visa (TRV) with in Canada. I have received a Biometrics Instruction letter which states that I have to go out of Canada to do Biometrics with in 30 days as there are no centers within Canada as of now. My visa is already expired and I cannot reenter if I go out for Biometrics. Is anyone facing the same issue ? Please advice.
