What is the most shocking to me is that most Senators seem to have no idea of what they are talking about

This is frustrating on a meta-level.

Completely agree. Without a strong Liberal whip, expect this bizarre show to continue. But wait.... JT appointed several independents who are not obliged to go with the whips' directions!

Oh boy!!

Now Jaffar will start to tell all the bedtimes stories that she gathered over the week

"We have the chance to tell this child now: You belong to Canada."

This is how we make laws now, by arguing with individual's situations?

I can't even.

Why do senators come and tell stories in senate?

Because that's what happens if you appoint people to the Senate who have the best of intentions but zero experience about lawmaking and politics.

I totally agree with you. Why in the hell at this stage they come up with long a** stories they just want to show how hard they are working.

You're all so fixated with 3/5 that you don't see the bigger picture. What's just been discussed is vital - it's exactly why the senate is there. Far more important than 3/5

We do see a bigger picture but the fact is that this bill was a repeal bill of c-24 but it all started from adding outside amendments and now they have started to cover all the flaws of citizenship process in one bill which is not fair for bill c6

It's frustrating, but you want this kind of discussion because when there is a bill that affects you negatively, you want to know that people will try to discuss and make such amendments. Because Cons play games and ram things through the senate doesn't mean that we should support that behaviour.

It's annoying, but i think necessary going forward.

Child like response. C6 was to repeal provisions of C24 - and that's happening. Protecting children in the custody of the state is VITAL. We have a date when the vote will occur so stop moaning and let them do their job.

I am not questioning that the issue they are talking about is important.

However, and Senator Harder has put this perfectly, this is a repeal bill. They are AMENDING a bill. Which means they have to stay within the scope of the bill. You can change the language requirements to a compromise between 55 and 65, namely 60. You can add the reintroduction of an appeals process which was in fact removed by the bill that this bill is trying to repeal.

But you cannot introduce a completely new topic. The possibility for minors to apply for citizenship is an important topic. But it is not, unlike the other amendments, in any way related to the scope of this bill. The implications of applications by minors is something that shouldn't just be introduced because some people feel strongly about it. It's like showing a picture of crying babies and then saying "babies are crying, we must do something about it" while the Senate is debating car manufacturing regulations.

There is no specific date or there is nothing in senate which could stop any senator from not introducing amendments, it can continue for long until all the senators are satisfied.
The question which comes is the scope of the bill, currently all senators are thinking that scope of bill is Citizenship so they can put any amendment regarding citizenship in this bill which will keep extending debate on this

In his opinion. Other senators, including those who have been pushing for C6 to move quicker, disagree.

We still need to give them the opportunity, time and respect to do their job. We have a date voting will occur by. We need to chill out.

A date has been agreed by those who matter (i.e. caucus leaders etc). So, no amendments will be introduced after that date but before easter - amendments and debates will be occurring.

Actually, Senate should have passed the original C6 bill and introduced another new bill to improve it.

Why? So it speeds up the application process? This is exactly my point. The job of the Senate is not to appease this group of people, which includes me! It's the bigger picture.
