HI,

Checked the forum after a couple of days, could someone clarify this. According to the Hansard on 24th, Senator Ringuette says

"Honourable senators, I would like the bill to be referred to committee so that we can hear from interested individuals and groups as soon as possible and pass this bill in 2016. Thank you".

So was it actually referred to committee? Does any one know? Thanks in advance.
that was her hope. it does not mean that the bill was referred to committee or passed in 2016

Just reviewed the transcript. Actually Senator Ringuette was expressing her disappointement regarding the current Committees composition, which is about to change. Liberals can't afford to have their laws blocked by legacy committee compositions.
I don't agree with the proposal to remove the Senate, but it would be good to have a fully independant senate (no partisanship and really competent members) with less procedures and votes (if their vote of the laws doesn't seem to matter, why should they vote at all ??) and submit their 'sober second thought' in the form of recommendations of amendments that the HoC could consider.

With JT's remark about Castro... I guess now they will have more fire to put out than working on C-6...

Would have no impact. Senators will only discuss the bills of senate. Its upto Senator Ngo to open the bill

This is always misunderstood even by Senators themselves. Any one can open debate for a government bill although a certain Senator adjourned the debate last.

any way to find out which time slot a bill is being discussed?

Senate sitting no. 77
Scheduled: Monday, Nov 28, 2016
6:00 PM - 10:00 PM EST

Late session tonight, hopefully they have enough coffee to not fall asleep.

The Bill is No. 3 on Second Readings list. But we know that does not mean anything if no one brings it up for discussion.

Yes but Senator who adjourned it last time have the right to adjourn it again because he want to speak on it.

This is true for private bills.
It's also true for Government bills but if the one who asked for adjournment is late or not yet prepared, any other one can open the debate and talk.

Any idea what drama/debate going on at senate

A quick research on Senator Ngo shows that he calls himself a 'Champion of human rights'. However, it seems most of if not all the cases he is actively involved with involved some form of Vietnamese human rights (e.g. Vietnamese women's rights, education of Vietnamese immigrants ..etc). I am very curious on what he has to say about this bill considering his background.

If he talks shortly!!

However, today's sitting is specific for government business (according to Se. Bellemare) so, I think they should finish all government bills without adjournment to any of them.
