At the first glance of the bill most people tend to think that the longer residency requirement is the most controversial change, but that is almost nothing comparing to the “intention to stay”, which can literally strip our citizenship the moment we take a long vacation abroad or start a temporary foreign work contract.Tolerance said:Section 5(1)(c) of the Citizenship Act is what most people are anxious about I would say (three years residency changing to four, then the counting of pre-PR days as 1/2 day for each day spent in Canada).

I know, but I kind of blew my steam on that a few days ago (go back a few pages).chelavnzuo said:At the first glance of the bill most people tend to think that the longer residency requirement is the most controversial change, but that is almost nothing comparing to the “intention to stay”, which can literally strip our citizenship the moment we take a long vacation abroad or start a temporary foreign work contract.
The Cons really earned their name.
I would be able to apply end of November. Some other folks here on the forum have earlier dates, so they might just beat me to it .us2yow said:Tolerance, When is the earliest you are ready to apply ?
This is most definitely the Bush era of Canada that spoiled the country...and we need some "OBama" like change to feel vindicated...
Oh I am aware it will PASS before the end of the year, but I am allowed to have some hope that perhaps coming into force of Section 5(1)(c) will be delayed . They have to prepare, train their staff, reprogram software, give everyone time to get used to it, blah blah. You know they are kind that way .us2yow said:You know back in February there was a CTV News article when the bill was first presented where the reporter ended - I distinctly recall - by saying.....".........the government expects this to pass by the end of the year...." ( I am guessing as in becoming law).
Then maybe March or April..in some other article The Minister is quoted as saying again something on the lines of by the end of year or so...
Alexander is lying and covering it up with his fake ignorance as though he doesnt get our concerns, thats howarch said:Hi all,
As per the previous post I had read it regarding reside in Canada
"April 28 Committee Meeting update (description in personal words):
* Big push on Declaration of Intent to Reside from Quebec NDP. Honourable Minister Chris Alexander says the measure is intended for PR's only not for citizens. Once citizen, you can leave the country and move wherever you want.
So as I understand that means only for the PR not for who want to apply for citizenship and logicically for the new PR not for the current one because if they include the current PR too , how they going to implement that by calling all the current PR to sign on the reside papers ?????
please clarify .
