Hi Guys,

Lets focus on knowing when Bill C-24 will come into force .. thats what really matter for all applicants eligible in 2014.

I couldnt find any reliable way of knowing other than predictions based on Previous Citizenship Acts which took 6 months to a year after Royal Assent to come into force?

Anyone has a reliable answer through an MP or other reliable resources .. please share with us.

Thanks,

You are right , calling to one s MP 's office might be the best option to get the authentic info.

I can recall a piece of info posted by a member , a few weeks back , who called his MP's office and found out that " The bill C-24 will be passed by both the houses or atleast by HoC before the summer break ". Initially i didn't believe it but now it has proved true.

Bill Passing is happening anyways either before Summer Break or After. But what really matters when this Law will be come into force thats the real issue. And Lets say it is planned to come into force January 1st 2015. Would all People in 2014 be eligible to apply under the old Law .. we really need to know this. I was reading in 2008 there was minor changes for Citizenship Act. The Royal Assent was received in April 17th 2008 and it came into force in April 17th 2009. They mentioned the OLD LAW will be used cases between April 17th 2008 and April 17th 2009. So I am wondering if we will see similar scenario.

I still can't image the Law coming into force immediately .. they need to be prepared for it. (New Forms, Computers, Training People, Intent to reside clause.. it is a Major Change)

We need to confirm this from MP or someone who really knows. Please Guys help in this for the benefit of everyone.

It will be effective from June 19, 2015. I called cic call center so it's authentic.

I spoke with my MP's office (when there in person). I was advised of two things -- one political, one reasonable. The political thing was that the residency-related provisions of C-24 will come into effect in about a year from royal assent. The reasonable thing-- and the most encouraging one -- is that it would take CIC staff at least one year to train on the new procedures, forms, etc. They will be commencing this training soon at the Nova Scotia level as well as by the local offices (not sure how they are trained and didn't ask).

That is really encouraging news,, thanks Scientist!

So now we should wish all of these guys a loooong (and happy, the best case) summer vacation before coming back to office! We just endured the longest cold winter here and i believe everyone should forget about work for a while and truly enjoy the sunshine to the maximum;-)

It's encouraging, but not written anywhere. I only like the "reasonable thing" I mentioned above, i.e. it would take staff at least one year to train. But that doesn't mean that the new law shall not come into effect. In fact, it can come into force today, and the staff will be trained using new applications. But that's inefficient because the purpose of the new law is to reduce the backlog, not to add more time! Thus, the reasonable thing is that this won't probably come into force until next year...

I called CIC call centre today to ask when the new law will take effect and who will be impacted.
I had a confirmation from the agent that the new law will be applied on July-2015 and any one applying before that date won't be affected.

No one has to speculate, you can take the info directly from the source!

It's not written. Ergo, it's not official.

Remember you are talking to a clerk who answers the phone, I doubt if the Minister has released his time table to the call centre.

I don't know if that is encouraging... when this kind of overhaul happens there are often delays and mass confusion as people mix old process with new. It causes chaos and never helps.

No, you're talking to a CIC agent who is supposed to be knowledgeable about CIC policies and procedures. When I called about the residency requirement, the agent put me on hold in order to go to her supervisor and find out. This comes from a deeper level than just from a CIC call center agent.

As for it not being written anywhere, I'm not sure what it is you want from us in this forum. If it was written on any official site, none of us would be here sharing Call Center info, would we?

Bottom line: you don't have anything that's officially announced. Your only choices are unofficial information or nothing at all. Take it or leave it (and stop making noise just for attention).
