It doesn't matter when you became a PR. What matters is when you submit your citizenship application. So yes - the new laws will apply to you since you will be submitting your citizenship application after the law comes into effect.

My wife landed in June 2013. Under the old rules, my wife would have qualified in Jan 2016 due to counting her previous time before landing towards citizenship qualification and meeting the 3 / 4 years residency requirements. But by the time Jan 2016 rolls around, the new rules would be in effect thus pushing her qualifications to July 2017.

So you need to stay in the country at least 4 years based on the new law and your previous life before getting PR, if you lived in Canada is vanished.... Welcome to club bud.

Has Bill C-24 been passed and approved into law? If yes, is it effective immediately or that date is separate. Honestly I find it to be very unfair to us. I am hoping and it does not become a law.NSBoy902 said:

Yes, C-24 is law. Some of the provisions are already in effect and some will come into effect later at a date to be formally announced. The best guess is June/July 2015.bafakih said:
