Hi,

I am just wondering is it possible and better to apply for a Temporary residents (TRV: Single-entry visa)?

I am living in Canada, and my wife is currently in India. The current processing times are showing approximately 17 months to before she comes to Canada. Since, the period is long, is it possible to apply for a TRV, after submitting the applications for PR?

Or, is there any other way that is faster for her to come here, after having applied for PR? I know applying from within the country is a slower/longer process than applying from outside of the country.

Any suggestions? Ideas?

Thank you,

Amit Kumar

Better to try applying for the TRV before you apply for PR. Typically there's a higher chance of refusal afterwards.

Whether you apply of after, make sure to disclose your relationship in the cover letter.

If I have my wife apply for her TRV before applying for PR, would it be longer for her to get her PR status, since she will already have come to Canada on TRV.

And, the application processing time will be for applying from within the country, which has longer processing times than applying from outside of the country?

Thank you Kindly.

No. She can apply for outland PR while she lives in Canada. The inland times are for those who specifically apply inland.

I disagree. You are not married yet, they don't need to know that for a TRV.

It's a bit difficult, but not impossible to get a TRV after marrying and submitting a PR application. My wife was able to get one after marrying and sending the PR application (see my signature). The main issue people have, whether applying for a TRV before or after marriage, is that they're unable to demonstrate to CIC's satisfaction, that the spouse only intends to visit Canada temporarily and will leave before their TRV expires. My wife and I spent almost 3 days preparing the documents for the TRV, and we constantly exceeded the file limit size when applying online, so we had to do things like reduce the font size and compress pictures.

Thank you guys. So, I guess it is better to have my wife apply for TRV before applying for PR? From what I understood, it is possible to apply for PR after her TRV.

And after my wife comes to Canada on her TRV, she could still apply for PR as an outland applicant, even though she's in Canada? Please confirm.

It seems like this might be the fastest way for her to come here, since it is faster to get a TRV. And, then we can apply for her PR, after she comes here to Canada as an outland applicant.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Please refer to this thread for TRV:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/visitor-visa-grantedwife-of-pr-t273759.15.html

Also use the forum search function to find the NDVO 2015 thread and ask there.

To be honest if u apply for TRV before applying for PR, it will be refused. The officer will ask u to apply for PR first (not always but generally this is true).
