I already got the PR and am looking at various options to take the POF from India to Canada. Below are the options considered
1. Open chequing account from India and wire transfer 90% funds into it. Convert balance 10% into CAD for immediate needs post landing
2. Take Traveller cheque/ DD from India and deposit it after opening an account in Canada

Which would be the best option where I loose least money in currency conversion/ bank charges?

Rather than wire transfer your money before you land is little bit risky idea. I would prefer to have a International Demand Draft. It takes 15 to 20 days to get money in your account from DD. Therefore you also carry some cash with you when you land.

One thing which i know of, you can not transfer money from your Indian account to your Canadian account (if both are on your name). My Indian Banking adviser has communicated this to me over email.

So, check with your bank about these things as well.

Why is that?

I don't think this has anything to do with Canada. Maybe your current bank has some rules or something.

You can open an account in Canada and you can transfer your money as far as they are being sent from an account that has your name.

From HDFC netbanking, i get following message
Remittance to own account is not allowed through this facility. Visit your nearest HDFC Bank branch for more details.

Then visit the branch and figure it out!
Language dude. If you did not like my post, then ignore it.

I can read English pretty well and I did visit them as well. But due to new FEMA rules or something, Indians can not.

Nothing personal here man. My apologies if it sounded inappropriate, no such intention here at all.
