Best way to get into Canada?

Hi All,

Sorry if this question has been asked already.

This is for my cousin brother... he's currently in India and willing to immigrate to canada. He is graduate with 10+ years of experience in Sales, and has a family of 4 in total (including him). I want to know what is the best possible way to get him to Canada either on a work permit or a PR directly.

I have checked the CIC website and even consulted few immigration consultants, but my brother is not very educated (has done Bachelor of Arts) and is 41 yrs of age. I was told by a consultant that he can come over to canada on tourist visa TRV, and then speak to a lawyer and get a work permit.... but I am not sure how "easy" it is to get one, and how much it may cost. and if that is the legal way of doing it.

Could you please help suggesting what is the best way to get him to canada. I am a Canda PR, and living in Ontario. I can get him here on a tourist visa, but not sure how will it go to get a work permit on that tourist visa and get things on line.

Those consultants are pulling your leg, work permits are hard to get in general.

Sorry to say but he has a very slim chance of migrating to Canada, given his age and work experience, which is not in demand.

As explained above, very difficult to get a work permit because the vast majority of employers are unwilling to go through the long and expensive LMIA process. If any consultant is promising a job in exchange for money - it's a scam.

If your brother wishes to immigrate to Canada, he will have to research Canada's immigration streams to find out what it takes to qualify and apply. Detailed information here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp

How about study permit? Is he single?

No, he is married and has 2 kids. I know he is not having a strong profile, but I have seen people like drivers and mechanics getting a work permit, whereas I feel he's much better than those ppl. I did check on the CIC for his skill category as FSW, but his points are not that great, its around 315 which I feel are not enough to get a strong profile.

any thoughts? any other way you can think of doing it the right way? my brother is happy to take any job to get here, and then later look for a better one.

How about study permit? Is he single?

He's married, but getting a study permit will help? At this age, and will it be helpful in getting a job .. I don't want him to spend a year or two doing study and then later getting nothing out of it, but just wasting time and money. if you know what I mean.

Has he maxed out his EE points? Can he take IELTS again to increase his score? Can his spouse take IELTS and get her education evaluated to increase their points?

Again, getting a job in Canada as a foreign worker tends to be extremely difficult. However some are certainly successful. So if he wants to give it a try - he needs to start applying for jobs through job sites such as indeed, linkedin, etc.

Ideally he should aim for a skilled job (NOC A, B or 0). The problem with low skilled jobs is that you can't bring your family with you to Canada as a foreign worker - and generally speaking these jobs don't provide you with a path to immigration.

Agreed that immigrating at his age is more difficult. If he's serious about it, he's going to have to dedicate quite a bit of time to searching and applying for jobs, trying to increase his score through re-taking IELTS, etc.

How about some regions like Saskatchewan or nova scotia or manitoba PNP programs? I heard that you do a education program there for a year, and then you can apply for a PR? I am trying to search this on the website but not getting specific info. do you have any idea?

That may be a way, but the rules change all the time. It may have been the case before, but it may not be the case anymore, if you cannot find information about it.

As previously mentioned, he (or you) has to dedicate the time to research all the possible and current ways to immigrate. It's hard for any of us here, without any specific knowledge of his skills or what you both are willing to do (you already said you don't want him to study, so that eliminates that avenue), to give any specific suggestions.

If you don't want to do the research or thinking, you can hire a consultant, but get a new consultant other than the ones you've already been to, because they all sound shady. If they tell you they can get a work permit, they're not to be trusted.

Caregiver won't work. He doesn't have the required work experience.
