Hello my name is Jacob, my partner Alvin is from hongkong, we have been in a conjugal relationship for 2 years now, currently he is in Canada on a working holiday visa which ends December 28th of this year, we have only been living together for 9 months at that time however. We are hoping to peruse a common law application ASAP which would be at the end of March 2019 and as far as we can tell there are 2 ways which we could have him stay in Canada until that time comes, one is to apply for an extension for his working holiday which takes around 3 months to process, it will likely be rejected but it could get us over to when we could apply, the other would be to have him appply for a visitors visa to cover those 3 months. Just wondering which is best and what is the best method of going about it. Need help ASAP thank you

Stop working after December 28 th, apply straight away to extend stay as a visitor and until a decision made on that can remain in the country on implied status but no work. No point in applying to extend an IEC when you know it will be rejected and if continuing to work post Dec 28 th could create problems later given claiming ignorance of rules would not be an excuse in working illegally.
