I just started applying about a week ago and I haven't been too aggressive because I haven't received my work visa yet. I have gotten correspondence back from two of the local government positions though.

My problem is that I need specifications on what medical field work is defined as.

Update on my search status. I'm feeling completely defeated. I have been actively applying for work every single day for the past 5 months. I'm starting to think they don't want to give jobs to American's. I have applied for anything and everything in administration, even call centers. I have a Bachelor's degree and solid work history. I have had 3 CEO's and a policy analyst review my resume and they think it is phenomenal.

I just don't get it. I finally went to two temp agencies last week because I am desperate since my husband was laid off.

A lot of it depends on how you apply.
The majority of companies have big careers pages where resumes are more and more likely to get lost in a big black hole. It's unfortunate and kind of pointless to have a big careers web presence if you aren't going to actively review applications but unfortunately it is what it is.
I would recommend going to agencies (assuming you don't require any work permit support etc) and going to temp agencies is certainly a good step as this will create leads and hopefully start to open up your network - which the job hunt is all about really.
Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date and that you are represented in a way similar to your resume (ie have similar information - nothing more frustrating than reviewing a resume and then looking up their linkedin only to find that the info is completely contradictory).

Also, the 3 CEOs and policy analyst who reviewed your resume - are they American or Canadian? No offence but quite honestly, you shouldn't really care too much about what they say - you want to focus on how an HR Manager, a hiring manager or a recruitment agent views your CV as those are the people who are going to be doing the first stage review and possibly marketing (in the case of the agent).

Are you also keeping a record of where you've applied and for what role? It's super annoying to review a resume and recognize it from somewhere only to find that the person had applied for 15 different roles in the company. Even if you're a great fit for the job, you may be overlooked as your search is unfocussed and it's difficult to tell where your skills lie.

Sorry if it comes across blunt -I hope it helps though.
Good luck
