Hi, I am posting this on behalf of a friend. He was born here in Canada and has been living and working in the US for the past 25 years. Is there a problem with him coming back? would he have lost in Canadian citizenship? tks.

If he has proof of citizenship, there shouldn't be a problem. One assumes that he has a valid Canadian passport?

My Canadian husband has been in the U.S. since September 1988, almost 25 years. We applied for my permanent residence in Canada, which was approved this February. No issue was raised regarding his lengthy absence from Canada. And, as the other post noted, he does have a Canadian passport. My understanding is that your "friend" must take affirmative, explicit steps to renounce his citizenship--otherwise, he'll be Canadian forever! ;D

Also, I don't think that you can renounce a citizenship unless you have an alternative to transfer to.
In other words, you can't accidentally or deliberately render yourself "stateless".

Hi

I have been away from Canada since April 1990 (23 years now)
Send in my app to sponsor my spouse in February 2013 and got an Approval already!

Dont worry. There is no problem here!
