Becoming a Permanent Resident

Hey guys, I am a citizen of the United States, and I'm really wanting to move up north, but it's proving more difficult than I thought it would be. I'm 22 years old, and I'm about to lose my place here in the states, but I have some friends up in Canada who would be more than willing to let me stay with them. I've graduated from high school, but I only have one college class under my belt. I can't afford any more at the moment. I have a lot of retail work experience, and some Electrician/Carpenter work experience, but no college degree's or anything. What I'm wondering, is what are my options for living legally in Canada with my friends, so that I can get myself settled and start building a new life?

With what you have outlined, no chance to emigrate as a skilled worker. You could get a swap visa which would allow you to work in Canada for 6 months, but it is not extendible and is really not a path to Permanent Resident. Start you reading here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp and take the assessment.
