I would imagine that it'd be the CBSA that deals with athlete visas and not CIC. I doubt we'll see any 'slowing down' because of the Olympics. The Haiti earthquake will likely slow down the Canadian portion of the imm. process, but that's a different story...

CIC deals with the issuance of the athlete's visas. They set up a special task force to oversee this over a year ago. The delays are due to increased number of applications, under-staffing and politics. In case you have noticed, our current government is not really "pro" immigration.

That+s not good the visa office were my papers have to be processed is Bogota.. and i have check the times since a while ago .. they use to do it in min 6 months and mas 15 but now those numbers are just increasing the actual dates are 10 to 17 months for a sponsorship spouse one.... they are approving more skilled worker visas than family... is not suppose Family be a priority for canadian goverment... i cannot see that .. also im not from bogota ... but my papers has to go there.. and arrive to me 2 to 3 weeks later....
i think canadian migracion should audit or check how processses are being made in offices like mine were proccessing times are longer than in the rest of the world....
is just unfair that visas are approved in 3 months in other countries while im sitting here with my life and carrer on hold.. and my husband far away from me cause they are not giving me a turist visa to stay with him.. and money is not the problem!
