"Beaux-Parents" / In Laws or Step or Both?? Visiting from the US

I am American, visiting Canada, with my Canadian spouse and our dual citizen small daughter.

MY parents want to come visit from the US for a month or so. I am unclear if they are IMMEDIATE or EXTENDED family. If the former, they can just come through with minimal requirements; if they are EXTENDED then they require an application, written authorization, etc.

When I called the IRCC, the woman (French primary language) told me "beaux parent" meant they were IMMEDIATE family since that means in laws. BUT doesn't it also mean STEP? This is a critical question. She told me it should count as immediate and that they should be fine without the applications/forms, etc.

But I don't know if I can believe her bc of the translation thing. Please help!!

As I understand it, it means in-laws.

If they were your step parents, they would also be your immediate family as they would be your parents. But I guess your question is whether or not in-laws counts as immediate family members.

Yep but why doesn’t it say in laws as immediate family members (it’s just says parents or step parents) for visiting purposes?

Isn’t it uniting with a Canadian tho?

Here’s what it says. What am I missing:

Immediate family members who want to unite with a Canadian citizen, person registered under Canada’s Indian Act or permanent resident
Who is an immediate family member
An immediate family member is defined as a

So these people are your parents, and you are the spouse of a Canadian.

So therefore, from your Canadian spouse's perspective, these people are "your spouse's" parents.

Why wouldn't that fit into the bullet point above as written and quoted twice? They're reuniting with your wife.

And the agents primary language would indeed to be French , since it is the other official language.

The only potential issue I see is that you're just visiting Canada and aren't living in Canada so they aren't coming to reunite with you they are wanting to join you while you are on vacation in Canada.
